Am i just to ruff when putting stuff in the back. I can't get over how easy the hard plastic in the back marks or scratches. Is there any products that can remove marks from the plastic or should just live with it. I had a mazda tribute before the 120 and didn't get as many as i have already and i had it for five years. It's just the wife goes off about it :x , you think they might make it a bit more robust.

you can buy a rubber mat to cover the back, including under the 3rd row. available from toyota.

Unfortunately the toyota rubber does NOT cover the hard plastic only the carpet.
The sides are almost impossible to keep pristine unless you keep a few old thick towels in the back to throw over the sides of stuff.
The plastic at the rear gets marked no matter what you chuck in there: Prams, fridge, boxes, couple of hot girlfriends all seem to mark them up sooner or later.

well. I threw some really big logs into the back of my 80 series this morning for firewood......must say I wouldn't have done the same for the Prado though...... give me a few years, though and i probably would. I guess it will take a few years of age before we will not mind a scuff or scratch here or there.

I know it's a 4by, but i like to look after my cars. I hate to see what it will look like in five years or so if i don't take more care packing.

Funny how the wife spots all the marks after i packed or unpack and says that they weren't there last time she looked or put something in the back!.

Found this topic or problem on another forum, they said to try butane gun, heat gun but be careful not get the plastic to hot. Said it worked for them i have not tried this yet myself. Just thought others might like to know.

one of my sons has managed to leave a huge scratch on a passenger door trim... looking forward to hearing a few of your experiences with the heat gun treatment before I have a go at it!!!!

Armorall helps, it just eases the pain but doe not get rid of the scratch entirely :P

Better still.....more firewood and more scratches. Once you have a good collection you will not worry about the old ones and new ones just blend in ;-)

you should see the rear (and the rest of the car for that matter) of my in-laws Prado... he's a farmer and it's known to have sheep in the back not to mention fence posts, tools and anything else... He had semi-retired so swapped his tray-back cruiser for the Prado, but will probably go back to a ute sometime.

i use a grey rubber foam with adhesive backing and cut it to size and placed it on the main traffic areas. Rear toolbox cover, rear sides etc.. Brought it from Pararubber here in NZ. does the trick.

You could also use some contact or similar stuff you see on brand new cars to protect them.
One thing that can be done if you have bad scratches is sand them back slightly and paint them. Thats what they do in car yards.
