  • Bonnet Gas Struts are starting to fail

I put the bonnet up the other day while i was giving the rig a wash (its second wash for the year the poor thing :? ) and i was checking the engine bay out for any fluid leakage and other general maintence stuff and then CRACK.. the prado decided to give me a smack on the back of the head (NCIS style )

so im looking at replacing the struts.. it seems a very straight forward procedure so my question is the best place to source the replacements..

    genuine or non-genuine?

They seem to always be on ebay, so take a look there.

No doubt the genuine parts would be outrageously overpriced!

Munroe make struts for most vehicles, replaced some in falcons and never had problems!

                  Hi Everyone

My Struts have started to fail, has anyone tried the struts on ebay? They are very cheap, just over $50 a pair delivered.

                  Thanks

be keen to hear if anyone has had success here too, i got whacked on the back of the head when cleaning out the engine bay after the run to DI. of course i wasn't silly enough to just lift it up and keep on going to then receive a second whack..... it was after a long day...

Re: Bonnet Gas Struts are starting to fail

I fitted the ebay struts about 18 months ago. Really easy to fit, great quality, and do the job as well as the originals.

Re: Bonnet Gas Struts are starting to fail

I find BURSONS parts very reasonably priced. Not sure where or how many outlets they have. Air Cond filter $20 - Toyota wanted in excess of $60. Wiper blades complete with metal inserts $9.95 the pair - Toyota wanted nearly $50 for the pair. I have seen many owners of our local spare parts businesses in there getting there stuff for their own shops so must be ok. Always seems funny standing next to an owner of a competing business on the opposite side of counter lining up to buy stuff. Bursons always discount their prices for me rather than charge list price so I am happy with them to date....

Re: Bonnet Gas Struts are starting to fail

Struts arrived last week, now just need a day off (and the rain to stop) so I can fit them. They seem well made, and I struggled to compress them at all.
