    Re: Quality service from Toyota

I have also stop using Toyota after the last service and started doing them myself. If the service was better I would be still using them, but that's there lost.

      Re: Quality service from Toyota

Well just got back from the main dealership service department and the faults are definitely real. There is oil all over the place under the car from the transfer pinion seal and the rear engine seal. They also showed me the oil coming from the turbo which is only minor at this stage so they are not going to do the turbo cause it would take too long and I just don't have the time for the car to be of the road for 6 or 7 days.

As it is the car is off the road till Wednesday whilst they drop the tranny to do the rear seal. At least they said they would thoroughly clean the underside of the car of all the oil that is quite literally sprayed everywhere.

Another interesting bit of info is that Toyota have now recognised the injector problem and if you are sufering from the rattle you need to register with your dealership to get all 4 injectors replaced with the new model injectors and the reflash of the ECU which does detune the engine. The service manager told me he has 40 Prados outstanding to be done and he has only just received the first two kits to do two Prados.

        Mav,
Sorry to hear of your problems. Do you know if new vehicles come with the injector problem fixed or are they still using the old ones?
I'm guessing but would the dealer you are using have recently opened another franchise in a coastal holiday spot not far from Newcstle. Don't want to mention names so as not to offend. Only asking as I have just ordered a Prado myself and will be looking for a dealer who provides good service.

        Cheers
        Ken

You would be on the money there Ken and I have a high regard for the main dealership but I would not recommend their newly opened one for service. I am reasonable confident that any newly manufactured Prado would come with the new injectors.

            Re: Quality service from Toyota

Had the 10000k service done at the toyota dealer. Anyway next morning thought i would check oil level. Pulled the dip stick out and the level was about 12mm above the full dot. So rechecked it a couple of times, as expected same result. I rang the dealer and spoke to the serivce manager and he assured me that it's correct. 'Just start the car, shut it down and recheck it. We always check levels after service'. I tried to explain that the oil level has always been on the full dot of the stick since new after the car has sat overnight. Anyway frustrated, as he was not interested, i just drained the excess oil out of the sump. Removed 1.3lts till the level was back on the full dot.
Also they rotated the wheels and when i washed the car 2 days later there's a scratch on one of the alloy wheels. I don't really care as it will get plenty in time, but it those little things that pea me off. Do they take any pride in there work?

Is there a feedback form from Toyota from your Service... if so it sometimes pays to 'let them know'. Equally, try the following:

              Customer Experience Centre - (toll free) 1800 252 097 (Mon to Fri 8am - 6pm AEST)
              Contact Toyota

Complaints or issues in writing often receive a better and more formal response.

                Re: Quality service from Toyota

Well I picked up the Prado late this afternoon from the main dealership service dept. They have fixed the transfer pinion seal leak and the rear engine seal leak. Now I just have to get the turbo oil leak fixed and the injectors replaced and I will be back at square one again.

                    Re: Quality service from Toyota

Yeah I can't believe they detune the engines to help solve the problem. Do they now sell the new ones with a decreased power output rating?? They should if that's what it takes to get the engine running without issue. When you outlaid the cash you were quoted a certain power output. After the sale is a distant memory Toyota has no qualms about downgrading a few specs to get the vehicle running properly. Geez that makes me MAD!!!

We are but puny customers with wallets......

Can't believe your list of problems Mav. Reads like a horror story...

                      Re: Quality service from Toyota

Hi, I am new here. Just upgraded from our 12yo Hilux dual cab we have had since to new and been just about everywhere to a new Prado GXL. We were so impressed with the Hilux, we didn't realy look at any other vehicles. The only reason we "upgraded" was that the old 2.8 diesel strugled to pull the camper trailer and the 3 kids were not that comfortable for long drives in the back.

Just had it in Adelaide for it's first service (3000km) and the dealer brought it back in 15 min saying everything is fine and no need for even an oil change. Having had diesels for the last 18 years and knowing the impostance of good oil, I will be giving fresh oil this week.

Just an aside to this, our last trip in the Hilux was a 6000km return trip to Darwin and prior to departing I asked the local Toyota dealer to do a full 100k service on it (timing belt, front hubs repack etc) and he managed to first order the wrong timing belt in, then told me some story about not having time to do the front hubs. When I got the Hilux back (after waiting for the correct belt), the drive shafts weren't even lubed. The Prado (or the Hilux) will not be going to this dealer again.

                          Good luck with it !!!

Some of the so called "professional staff" some toyota dealers employ would be lucky to know what an engine does !!

Some service centres are more interested in providing clients with the latest and greatest automatic coffee machines, providing name branded lounges and useless trendy magazines to pass the time, while the cheapest, dodgiest morons pretending to fix but subsequently break and damage your vehicle.

Not really a horror story but I think if I had my time over I would have gone with the petrol engine cause the amount of time that has gone into repairing the D4D has been a bit on the onerous side. The D4D has been great when it has been in peak condition but I am now looking at another few days off the road to get the injectors done again. It has done 55000 km in 13 months so you can see that it gets a lot of use and probably way more than most prados would do which may be one reason why I have experienced the early onset of problems. Even the service dept at the main dealership commented that they had never seen a Prado with all these problems at one time. I still have to get the turbo repaired but hopefully I can get it done when the injectors are done.
