    Re: Quality service from Toyota

Yeah I am also thinking that if I was signing the dotted line right now it might very well be a V6. With the cost of fuel, the benefit list of the D4D is beginning to whittle down a fair bit. I think you got yours Mav a month or so before me. I've only just recently clocked up 14,000k's with it because I just haven't had the opportunity to use it enough. City life grates on me a bit but thems the breaks. Mine has only had that one glitchy patch and has been completely without issue since the cold weather disappeared. Fingers crossed that nothing eventuates this winter with this whole cold starting issue, which I think was my problem all along at a guess. Main diet of BP Ultimate Diesel which really was beginning to sting a bit at the height of the fuel price rises last year.

On the issue of servicing. I've got Morley Toyota just up the road from where I work. Has anyone had anything to do with them? I'd like to show them my servicing costs at my current dealership and see if they can do any better.

Hey IP dont forget your idle up button on cold mornings. I tried this in Melbourne on a Barmy 13'c day outside in the morning and it lifted the starting revs by about 400rpm, so it definately works, and I let it idle for a good 2 - 3 mins before take off. I have 30k on the clock and no rattle.

Yeap Golly! Got the Idle up button all sorted. Good for getting the engine up to operating temps but still has a noticable knock there on occasion. Sometimes worse than others. Not in the hotter weather though it seems so I hope it doesn't come back.

          Re: Quality service from Toyota

Looks like I have a decision to make after reading this discussion. Today I did an oil change on my D4D and also had a quick look underneath while the oil drained out. Noticed some minor oil blow back across the fuel tank and traced the source to the front transfer shaft oil seal. The vehicle has done just over 90k. I did a quick check of the transfer oil level and it's all good. So, straight on the blower to Clintons Toyota at Narellan and they have quoted me $260.00 for parts and labour. Really in two minds about letting then touch my truck......

Also, re the idle up button. Mine seems to have stopped working. There is nothing in the glovebox manual about it... Is there a trick to it?

The ECU controls the Idle up, and only activates it if the engine temp is below a certain level, the weather atm probably isn't cold enough for it to be activated.

              Matt,

Do you know if there is a way to bypass/over-ride the ECU controlling the idle up? Might be handy to have idle up available on a warm engine - thinking low-range crawling without stabbing the throttle on the rough stuff or as Nika has done, using it to provide more herbs when winching
