  • Best place to get a snorkel fitted in Cairns

    Cairns Pradopointers,

Where is the best place in Cairns to get a snorkel for my '04 120 V6? Are any of the shops in Cairns more (or less) reputable than the others?

Could you post the wheres, whats and how muchs of any that were bought and installed in Cairns (or even Townsville).

By the way, Ergon are in the process of removing the poles and lines from the CREB track. Their intention is to close it to vehicular traffic and turn it into a walking track. The gates are locked but you would be nuts to try it at the moment as there has been a tonne of rain up this way.

Even the Bloomfield track from Cape Trib to the Bloomfield River was slippery. All the creeks are nice and high too. My mate took his Prado for an unexpected swim. Made me start to think I need a snorkel.

Proverbial Cats and Dogs. It's great. Washes all our sins away... so to speak.

Just got back from Cape Trib. Was slippery as hell. Lots of trees on the road. Great fodder for your new weapon. Woobadda and Emagen creeks were nice and fat.

I will get a snorkel next time I am in Cairns... I couldn't bear the thought of being stuck here.

I think the same thing happened with the bump & the top of Goldsborough the only dIfference is that people live along the CREB & it is used for their access

Re: Best place to get a snorkel fitted in Cairns

I never got around to posting a reply.

I wound up getting an Airtec from TJM. They were more expensive than ARB but ARB couldn't fit me in. I wound up getting it fitted for $670.

I also got an oiled sock to stuff down it's throat and a K&N air filter. I found that dust was getting through the paper filter. The combination of the Snorkel filter and the K&N seems to have done the trick.

            Thanks for the tips.

Be aware that the sock will restict airflow and should only be used when in a convoy etc and you can swap for a clean one regularly.
I like paper filters better for the main filter. Reason is similar to above, you can remove filter and tap or gently blow away excess dust.
Oiled ones like the k&n hold dust and are not easy to clean in the bush.
