Re: Help! Noise & vibration above 90Kmph.

Forgive me for revisiting an old thread, but i've had about enough of the same hum/drone/vibration on my VX (Petrol).

Allow me to give some background. The vehicle never had this problem. That was until I became a diff club member. Stripped the Crown Wheel & Pinion properly, and as a result of the location that I stripped it, and the location of the Rollbed Truck - the only option I had was to 'drag' the vehicle out with the front wheels doing the work.

Had the Diff exchanged for a unit from a Wrecker, and when I got the vehicle back the vibration was VERY evident over 90km/h. Took the vehicle back, and they found that the flange connecting the propshaft to the Rear Diff was Warped slightly. This was exchanged, and the excessive vibration was gone, but the hum/drone was there.

Take 3 - took the vehicle back. This time both Propshafts out. Front propshaft was found to be out of sync and it was subsequently balanced. Refitted to car, but while it was out, the front Diff was checked. There was water inside the Diff, as a result of a missing breather tube. That was refurbed as well at the same time. Got the car back, but although the drone was evident, it was still there around 120km/h.

Take 4 - Took the car back because the Rear Diff was also leaking oil (albeit small). This time I asked them to delve further, beyond the DIffs, beyond the Transfer Case, and beyond the Propshafts. They found that the inner CV joints were very dry, and subsequently regreased them after checking that they were all in order. Got the car back yesterday - guess what - it's still there, BUT better.

But now I have a NEW problem.... When I floor the pedal, it sounds like a BUZZ coming from the right front of the vehicle. Almost like a large leaf is caught in the Snorkels intake. A slight ease up on the throttle and the sound goes away.

My interest is of course piqued at the Driveline Dampers? Anyone able to post a pic on the V6 of where it is so I can confirm mine is still there?
As mentioned, this problem ONLY started after the Diff went - prior to that it was the smoothest car I ever drove.
Any more thoughts on this - those that had similar problems, been solved yet?

Don't apologise, its good you used an existing thread, rather than starting a new one.

I get this same issue, and I have the 1KZ motor. I read through the Toyota mechanic reports from when the previous owner had the Prado. He reported the issue to Toyota and they claim it is due to the fitment of a aftermarket snorkel and therefore there was nothing they could do. I have just lived with it but maybe I don't have to. Any others out there with this issue?

I also get a fair amount of feedback, not sure if it is excessive though, through the steering wheel when going over bumps. I've had the suspension upgraded with lessened it somewhat, but I think it could be this power steering issue mentioned earlier. Anyone had this done?
