    Re: Service Costs

Just had our 10K service done under the $180 plan, they did the service and rotated the tyres for $180. So I am happy there where no suprises, I half expected rotation to be charged extra.

Funny... as Toyota tried to slug us extra for the tyre rotation. Maybe they made a mistake :?:

Anyway, when they suggested we would be charged more, we told them to get stuffed. Rather do it separately through a tyre shop that knows what they are doing and re-check alignment/balance at the same time. Unfortunately for us, the service standards of our local Toyota Service Centre has failed to impress so far. :?

        Re: Service Costs

        An interesting topic folks.

I had the '06/'07 D4D serviced for its 30000 in Mackay last July after being on the Cape. I didn't want to wait til we got back to Brisbane or else it would have been 2500 km over. The logbook says it should take 0.4 hrs, which I estimated should cost just under $200 all up. (It's basically change the oil, replace the oil and air filters and check that the sunvisors still work!) The dealer said it was impossible for them to do the service in that time and the service book was wrong. I had no choice but to get the service done, and the only other things I asked for was to change the diff oils after going through some creeks up north(a few minutes work and a little oil) and to tighten a bolt on the bullbar mount. Total cost was $560. (I thought something in the range of $200-$300 might be reasonable.)I wrote to Toyota when I got home, they gave the expected response - the time estimate in the book is correct but they have no control over what a dealer does and charges. A frustrating experience, though the staff at the dealership were very pleasant and professional.

I've just had the 40000 service done. Phoned a couple of Brisbane dealers for quotes - all different. Eventually went across the city to Downtown Toyota which offer a 10% discount for RACQ membership. (The offered 15% up until the end of last year.) Have used them before and have been pleased with their service. I asked them to forget about the diff oil change because it had been done. Deleting that, and with the 10% discount, the price was $480.

The lesson for me is to get a few quotes ahead of time if there is a choice of dealers and to make sure you clarify the workshop will be sticking to the service manual recommended times for services.

          Re: Service Costs

I had 10000km done at a Toyota dealer for $280, the 20000km was done at a Repco repairer for $200(quoted $330 by Toyota), the 30000km was done at a different Toyota dealer for $280. I am having the 40000km done Monday at a Jax outlet for $500(quoted $600 by Toyota dealers). Both the aftermarket dealers are authorised hand book service centres.
I think it pays to shop around but I also think the odd service at Toyota doesnt hurt, as if there are any issues after the warranty ends they may just cover it.
I have also been told that a few months before the warranty expires to pay the money for a full inspection by NRMA or similar people. Then if they find things that need to be done that the Toyota dealers have maybe not noticed, then it can be fixed under warranty at Toyotas expense, and not later on at the owners expense.

I see you have a 2008 D4D, so I'm puzzled why you don't have the Toyota Service Advantage* of $180 service costs guaranteed up until 60,000km?

*Toyota Service Advantage pricing represents the maximum amount payable for standard scheduled services and applies for the first three years or 60,000 kilometres of driving, whichever occurs first.

              Re: Service Costs

Well mine is out of warranty, so decided that I would do the servicing from now on. :!:
Just did the 80k service (this is a major service), cost me around $378 in parts (oil, diff oils, brake fluid, raditator coolant, filters x 3, grease). The only thing I couldn't do and will need to get it done professionally is the valve adjustments, approx $150. That's $528 using genuine parts and beats the $750+ quoted by the dealer and others :P . Next time I will exploit my mate that works at Toyota for cheaper prices on the genuine gear.

              Cheers

I just looked in the retail delivery card and found that my 2008 D4D was first registered on the 31.03.2008. One day later and I would have my servicing capped at $180. Bloody hell!

It was based on the compliance plate date i.e. when it came off the boat, not the delivery or rego date.

Gents - I have a Feb 08 D4D and I too have missed out on the fixed price servicing. Toyota keep a record of your Vin no. and that what the dealer checks out to see if they have to give the Fix price service.

For those who want tho check if they are covered by the Toyota Service Advantage Program (fixed cost servicing for 3 years or 60K), put your VIN Number into the form at the following website and it will tell you if you are eligible and if so, what services you have already had and what are left.
