any one else have this drama with a d4d? my petrol 12o never did it
the knock is similar to the one when pulling up to a set of lights ect. only more pronounced.

Sorry mate - got no knocks on my machine at all, braking, tapping out of cruise or whatever.

I 'd get it looked at if I were you.

yeah mate its odd, its not like the cruise was trying to accelerate up a hill
just doing 100, then approaching 80 zone, tap the brake pedal and "clunk"

I pull the cruise lever to disable cruise rather than tap the brake pedal as I find it's smoother.

I have similar scary "events" in my auto 4D4. When applying the brakes on gravel roads the brake pedal feels as if it is coming through the floor with loud knocking. A Toyota service foreman explained that it is entirely normal as it is caused by the ABS pulsating to adjust braking on the slippery surface. However,it doesn't happen on normal roads.
Your "knocking" maybe related to the ABS rather than cruise control.
