    Re: ROUGH IDLE

    Hello again,

Just to keep you all informed, I booked the car in at the dealer today. They replaced engine mounts (apparentley common fault) and also in the process found an oil leak in the turbo which will be replaced by warranty.

      Re: ROUGH IDLE

      Gday,
Had mine serviced on Monday and the dealer couldnt find anything wrong so they phoned Toyota Tech Support and were told to replace R/H side engine mount now running like new.

        Re: ROUGH IDLE

I have EXACTLY the same problem described here - not rattle but rough idle when cold - in D but not in N. 24,000km on the odo.

Mentioned it to my dealer - standard response - "haven't heard of that before, you'll need to leave it overnight".

I am going to raise the engine mounts issue and see how I go.

I would repeat comments from Phoenix. Exactly the same problem. 26000km on clock. Has been doing it for a while but is becoming more frequent. Phoenix, are you in Brisbane, and if so what dealer?

            Re: ROUGH IDLE

Just to add to the discussion, have experienced both these problems. The unusually noisy rattle on cold starts appeared last (Brisbane) winter when I got back from a trip to the Cape. Went away when the weather warmed up and the dealer I had it at for a service in October couldn't find anything / didn't want to know about it.
The issue reappeared the first really cold day we had this winter, but sounded worse - like tappets right out of whack on an old car, or someone vigorously shaking a dozen ball bearings in a tin can. Drove off very slowly that morning, but the first light I stopped at, the Prado surged and shuddered like nothing I've ever experienced. Disapeared after it warmed up. Has done the same thing on two other occasions. The dealer wants it overnight, but booking it in on the hope there is a cold snap is a gamble. The warranty lasts until next February but I'm looking at buying an extended one just to make sure I'm covered if anything drastic happens further down the track.

              Re: ROUGH IDLE

We too have been having this issue for a while (50k on clock). Had it serviced last Friday at Toyota after they had it overnight and they finally felt the shudder!!! THey had it on their scanner tool when it happened and they took some "values" and have sent a tech query to Toyota HO and see what happens. Maybe I'll hear something maybe I wont.

                Re: ROUGH IDLE

Just to keep you all informed, I have since had the vehicle looked at and at this stage (fingers crossed) all good, problem solved!! They replaced the engine mount/s and no more rattle/shudder. Maybe all you others that have indicated that you have a similar problem should push for the same. Dealer stated that it has happened before.

Pheonix, yes mate, mine only happened in D not N. Usually when I stopped with my foot on the brake (idle).

                  Hi guys

Sorry about the late reply, just returned from a 3 week trip to the Cape and back.

My dealer is Hinterland Toyota at Burleigh.

I will print out this thread and take it to them for my 30K service. Thanks for the tips.

                    Hi all,

Just a further update on my rough idle. After engine mounts were replaced it rectified the problem for a while and then it returned. After extensive testing (3 times in for cold start testing) they are replacing no 3 injector tomorrow. Lets wait and see....

Hi all, just digging up an old thread...buuuuuuttttt...

I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions to this thread..
Long story short, just purchased a 2008 D4D Prado ( 78,000km on the clock) , had it a week, rough idle, turns out it has one broken engine mount and 4 injectors that need replacing..

Going into Toyota Dealership with a little knowledge, helped me get a result..

Next battle is to get it fixed under the Stat Warranty... Fingers crossed

Aftter living in Norway for 2 winters, I would say the "Idle Up" comes into effect at or below 5 deg C.
As soon as there is a bit of warmth in the engine, the "Idle Up" doesn't do any thing.
When I lived in Norway, the "Idle Up" switch would be pressed in all the time from about end of September until April.
Regular down to minus 22 with no issues of starting or driving what so ever.
Simply open the door, reach in with the key, into ignition, and turn, let glow plugs on for a few seconds, and away she spins.
