Help when turning we're getting a click,click,click sound

Hi all,

I did a search, couldn't find anything relevant.

We have just realised that when we go to turn a corner, even standing still we are now :evil: getting a click,click,click,click sound coming from the frond drivers wheel area.

Has anyone herd of this before?

worried as we've organised a PP trip for this Sunday. :cry:

I am thinking it would be the front CV joint

Are you saying that the noise is there even when the car is not moving. If it is then check if the front shaft is rotating because if something has come adrift in the front axle , with the centre dif not in its locked position (normal) in the transfer there would be a tendency for the shafts to turn. The same as if one front wheel is in the air and the brake is off. Had a similar thing happen with my rear diff in my overlander the rear axle snapped at the drum so all drive was to the broken axle. Had to drop tailshaft and drive home front wheel drive.

I had a similar problem. It was a clicking sound occasionally. After much investigation i found it was the temperature probe in the left wheel well, rubbing against the tyre when under full lock . the probe pokes thru a hole in the wheel arch. As the probe struck the inner wall of the tyre , it vibrated rattling aginst the hole in the wheel arch.
I solved the prob by bending back the probe a little.
As a matter of point , the problem only arose after i fitted the sightly wider 265/70/17 tyres
i hope my experience helps solve your problem

Ok, we had the RAC out to check it.
He said that we have an exposed Ball.
Sounds dirty i know but get your head out of the gutter guys!

I will be calling TOYOTA in the morning to see if this is covered on our warranty.

Looks like a ripped boot thats all and the grease has washed away inside. Might not be as bad as it looks.
Lets hope the click was just the lack of lube in there ( dont go there ) and that once shes fixed it goes away, or if its flogged out a new CV joint might be on the cards. They should be easy to find in Perth before the trip. 8)

Let's hope it's just minor....
I'm hoping to have it fixed before the trip Golly.
she's waiting for the tow truck to show up so she can get looked at. should have an answer in the next few hours.

Looks like an upper ball joint to me, quick easy and not too expensive

Well Toyota has had my car since about 10 this morning, and still no word apparently the guy has been waiting for authorization for it to go through on warrenty, He can't order the part until he gets that. This is the kicker. He might have to order from Sydney, He said he would love to have it fixed by thurday, hopefully no later then Friday. but never say never, :shock: could be as late as Tuesday. :shock: :shock: That's if the authorization goes through.

You'd think the dealer would order the part immediately and worry about warranty confirmation later. Its got to be done either way! Anyhow, good luck with it!

well i'm not going to buy trouble we'll have to wait and see if we get our car back on time. :|
