    Howdy All
Can anybody give me some idea as to whether it is possible to put a V8 into a Prado, or would it be totally over the top money wise? It is an auto diesel and I dont mind if I put a petrol or diesel V8 into it. i just want more grunt for towing and I think it woul give better fuel consumption.
    Cheers All

    Re: V8 2005 Prado

If you do a search online for the Lexus GX470, you will discover that they are in fact a 4.7 Litre V8 powered version of the Prado.
There are minor differences with some body panels, but they are the same chassis.
You could possibly obtain a motor and tranny thru a Japanese importer, but could it could be costly.
Would be interesting to see, so if you do one, remember to post some pics.

    Cheers, Mat

      Re: V8 2005 Prado

Here is my opinion after going through an engine conversion.

Dont waste your time or money, if you want an 8 then trade in the Prado and buy a V8 100 or 200 series, the car will never be the same and there are always compromises in a conversion. Then you get the hassle that you either need to learn to do everything on the car yourself or pay ridiculous fees for the only mechanic willing to look at it.

        Re: V8 2005 Prado

I was thinking about this the other day.

I love the Prado but lack of power is killing me.

You just need to take your time and do everything properly. All conversions we supply (mainly LS1 V8's) to our clients are supplied with the complete wiring looms intact, all sensors, all sender units, and of course the factory ECU's etc. Alot of our gear goes into 80 series Cruisers and none of them have ever had any issues. So you need to make sure that you get everything you need first of all.

The hardest parts in my eyes would be fabricating the mounts & the wiring of it all.

I was thinking of going the 4.8L Twin Turbo Diesel or going with a LS2 6.0L V8. I'm in the process of doing my homework on them now...dunno how long it will take me to bite the bullet and do it, but I can feel that its going to happen eventually.

            Re: V8 2005 Prado

LS2's have never been cheaper, and make great power.

It would be a very nice engine in the prado, and with headers, exhaust, cam, tune 3oo rw kw and 14-17lt per 100km hwy could be possible.

Its not the sort of job you would do on a small budget, but it would make for a very nice vehicle.

I wouldnt expect any change out of $20k to do it right, but it would also be less what ever the parts coming out of the vehicle were worth also.

I looked at doing this with LS1 in my 90 prado some time ago.

              Well...I bit the bullet.

One of the VZ HSV's we were wrecking had a LS2 6.0L. Some specs are:

              6.0-litre - 16-valve pushrod V8 - 297 kW at 6000 rpm and 530 Nm @ 4400 rpm.

That engine, harness, bolt ons, and computers are now out, and sitting at the back of my shop waiting for my pregnant wife to give birth to baby # 2 so that we have a few weeks to complete the conversion. I promise to post plenty of Pics...

I wonder what a running 1KZ-TE would be worth?

                Top work Oz,

This sounds like the beginning of something interesting... how will you mate the gearbox to the engine ?
I'm actually waiting on an engineer to get back to me - but it shouldn't be a problem. Probably going to use a Marks Adapter Kit at this stage. I've got my lathe ready to go - I'm preparing myself for alot of custom fabrication work. Fingers Crossed.

Many years ago, I saw someone put a GM V8 into 80' LC in a 4x4 mag.

Someone might put a GM v8 or v10 into the Prado and we never know.

whilst camping recently had the pleasure of hearing a nice ls2 pulling into the campsite.unbeknown to me at the time it was mounted in a 100 series Sahara.Speaking to the owner the reason for the conversion was due to the factory v8 failing twice.the second factory motor was supercharged and still gave upthe ghost.

he installed the LS2 due to the better torque which he was after to pull his caravan--READ MOBILE House!!!!!...
