As the title says Two Questions

1: Does anyone know how you can get entry to a new prado without any sign of forced entry and without the use of keys etc? :?: :?:

2: Do toyota make an alarm system to suit the prado? :?: :?:

Now why do I ask, well came outside side and found someone had indeed gained entry to our new prado  without causing any damage, all they then did was empty the glovebox and console onto the front seat; nothing stolen.

They did try to remove the uhf (velcroed to the dash) no dage to car but UHF cable looks a little second hand and the remote head no longer wants to work (cable damaged where it goes to rest of unit mounted up behind the dash.

Next door neighbours toyota van was also rumaged through in exactly the same fashion and wihout causing any damage.
Of course Toyota know of no way entry can be achieved without keys etc or if the car was unlocked (cost too much to do that)

On a side note the NT police attend within 10 minutes of the call, most impressed.

    Thanks

Damn it John, the rotten b#$@%&^ds. Luckily they have not done too much damage but still it sucks big time.

As far as factory alarms go, I think this is what you are after:

    http://www.ryda.com.au/Meta-HPB2-PRADO- ... 0prado.htm

The only way I could think of to gain access like they have is if they have a master key or have access to records for your sale to order a new key with your code or someone has had your keys and made a duplicate of them whilst in their possesion.

Someone may have written down your VIN number and gone to Toyota to have a new car key made from that.

      Re: Two Questions

Unfortunately there are a number of ways to enter a vehicle without damaging it.

Check around the window seals first for signs of tampering

Without giving to many ideas to the not so smart scumbags. This will be an extremely basic description, there are devices around that capture signals for entry keys of vehicle alarm/central locking. All the buggers do is rebroadcast the code.

This is different to the ADR required intelgient kill switch, so they can break into your car but it is more difficult to steal it.

        Re: Two Questions

Thanks for the replys, only had the car for a month so they are quick off the mark. Will have to check around the door seals this morning and chase up an alarm (maybe just hook it to the mains at night)

My understanding is they use rolling codes, so it's not as easy to do this as you see on 'Gone in 60 Seconds'

            Re: Two Questions

It'd be interesting to talk to other Prado and Toyota owners around town to see if they'd had anything similar happen. The way I see it, the pond scum could just drive around town very late at night broadcasting their codes from their car, then wait and see which car lights flash signaling a successful unlock. Toyota of course, won't say anything on the matter, even if they did know how the crims were doing it. You'd need to talk to someone like the RAC guys who regularly attend "locked keys in car" situations. They may have some ideas. You'd have to be doing well to lock your keys in your Prado though.

Few months back our Nissan Pulsar was gone through. But I'd stupidly forgotten to lock it that night. Next morning we noticed cars parked in the street with broken windows and other people standing around their cars with angry looks. It was clear our whole street had been targeted by car crims. We both wonder if we saved ourselves a window that night by forgetting to lock the Pulsar, we are careful to keep nothing of any value in it for that very reason. So I think what's going on is the crims come in and hit a few streets hard and then disappear, as we've never had anything happen up until that time or since. So I'd ask others in your street if they noticed anything.

                Re: Two Questions

I agree with the assessment, they either had a master key or copied you access code. I expect the situation to get a lot worse as the world goes through this economic meltdown, which shows no slowdown and will not recede for a loooooong time. Any talk of a recovery is way too optimistic.

My advise, park your car in a secure garage if you can, install a separate Alarm if you can, and do not leave accessories in the car and make your car more attractive.

                Cheers.

You used to be able to buy these quite easily from Tandy with the intention that you would use them honestly like if you broke or lost a garage or car key remote, that was at least 5-10 yrs ago.

Unfortunately locks are only for the honest people out there if they want something bad enough they will get in somehow, just makes ya sick.

your'e really lucky that no major damage occurred if leaving it outside you may consider a sensor light setup, might annoy the neighbours for a while though, locking it away for a while might be the go now the little S#*ts have got in once will probably give it another go to see what else is in there.
