AAAAAH. It's raining in Sydney and my screen is crap and has been since I put Rainex[?] in the bottle a few months ago. It is badly smeared and even my usual fix of polishing it with Autosol [which usually works] is having no impact on the smearing. The blades are fairly new and appear to be ok.It looks fine when dry but as soon as the wipers go on it smears.Any solutions to crappy smeary screens? Neil

Not sure, but as per the show "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", you could try Windex ?

The other issues that what ever was in the washer bottle, may need to be flushed and the lines as well..

      Re: windscreen smear

For nasty smears I'd give White Spirits a try. That's usually my fallback for thin films of gunk that refuse to come off. Maybe try it in a corner as I'm not sure what sorts of coatings windscreens have on these days, like tint materials etc that might be affected. Unless someone has tried this before?

Yeah I'd say a complete flush out of the wiper reservoir and lines is in order. Maybe try cleaning the windscreen (when you find the secret ingredient) and see if the problem reoccurs first though.

(QUOTE AAAAAH. It's raining in Sydney and my screen is crap and has been since I put Rainex[?] in the bottle a few months ago ) I havn't used rainex for some years now But the last time I used it I had to wipe it on the windscreen then polish it off Not pour it in the washer bottle :?: .
Maybe thats the problem :?: It was put in washer bottle instead of apply to windscreen and wipe off ops:

pretty sure Rainex and similar products are for spraying ontot the windscreen and wiping off only, not for the wiper fluid bottle.
I've tried various methods and products for glass cleaning and water beading over the years. The only method I've been happy with is to clean the windscreen with Kitten glass cleaner and newspaper, then use water only in the bottle. Works a treat.

I think they have a couple of versions in my local store, one where as you say you spray on and wipe off (and it works a treat), and a second that you can add to the washer bottle to 'top up' the regular treatment. I don't know how well that last one works.

Correct, they do a range of different products now. Inc washer additives...
