Hose dangling from transer case

Was driving down one of the main roads in town and noticed a noise coming from underneath the car. Looked underneath and saw this:



Jacked up the car to have a better look at it:





Tied it up and getting to inspect it on Monday.

What do you think it is?

Looks like the breather line that would normaly run up and sit between the fire wall and top of the engine block in the engine bay :?:

I'd agree with MickL. I only recently added diff/transmission and transfer case extended breathers and the transmission/transfer case hose looked auspiciously the same as the one in your photo. It has either slipped off or some how been caught on something that has torn it off.
