  • Centre console bin lid rattle

The lid on our centre console bin / arm rest is loose and rattling. I can't figure out if there is an adjustment that can be made or if something is missing (we have only just picked it up). I'm guessing there is a rubber insert that fits into the hole where the clip fits into or some rubber stoppers around the lid of the bin? Any ideas?

Re: Centre console bin lid rattle

Mine's had that noise for a while now. I think it's caused by the weight of resting your arm on the lid whilst driving and over time causing the lid to bend downwards in the middle. Un noticable but enough to make it rattle. I tried putting a self adhesive round rubber buffer on each corner under the lid but they keep coming off.
The next trick I'm going to try is to put a short piece of foam or rubber weatherseal, something like you would use to seal around door jam across the top edge of the console bin, just above the latch to try and stop it a bit.
    Anyone else got any suggestions?

The lid has about 7mm of vertical travel while it is latched.

annoyed the crap out of me too - until I glued some rubber stoppers on either side. The self-adhesive ones were no good - needed araldite (supaglue would do). Now its sweet as.

I took mine back to Toyota just before the warranty run out and they replaced to little rubber dowels in each corner at the front and it has been all good since then, I am sure they wouldn't be a very expensive part.

i drilled 2 small holes across the front edge of console and fitted 2 rubber bumper/stops.
            fixed straight away.
don't have a camera to take a pic, but you buy them in the blister packs at auto parts places.
small dome shape on top, and a tail on underside that is retained in hole.
will take a pic tomorrow when Nat is home with camera, if someone else hasn't beaten me to it

              Well here is my fix.

A wipe down with some isopropyl alcohol, a bit of epoxy to hold them in place and no more rattles. I fixed them where the red circles are so they are out of the way and can't get knocked off.

I could have fitted them to the lid but ... um ... I didn't. Doesn't really matter really. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

For anyone with this issue goto Toyota and order this part x2, for both it was $5.70. They simply pop out and the new ones pop back in, there the little rubber cussions which wear out over the years.

Did the same as above, but sourced from Clark Rubber store.
genuine probably the more economical solution as I always feel molested after shopping at Clarks...

I did the same and it fixed it. Buy 2 and another two to have in the glove box for when it happens again.
