towing a large boat

hi all,
this is my 1st post here. After a bit of advice from Prado owners on towing.
i have been using my 2005 V6 GXL to tow my 6m 2T plate alloy boat. It does it effortlessley and I am very happy with it.
I am getting a new boat that will be around 2.5T on a fully braked alloy trailer. Maybe a little more when loaded up and full fuel. I am aware the tow rating is 2.5T.
I am only towing it a couple of klms to the ramp.

My question is - Is there anyone else on here towing large loads up near maximum? How does the Prado go?

Hi Steve,

I have towed up to about 3t with mine and it did it fine, but it was a bit nerve wracking as I think that there are insurance issues for both car and boat in case of an accident.

We were moving a mates boat with the prado because his disco wouldn't start, and the only thing going through my head was if i have an accident there is $40k worth of prado and probably $100k worth of boat that are not covered by insurance because we were exceeding the tow rating of the car.

After helping the Bayliner guys move some boats around in Sydney last year i found that 9 out of 10 would not let you open the door all the way as it fouls on the upright pole that the winch is mounted to on the front of the trailer
