  • DP Chip

Gday everyone. I just picked up a 2007 D4D Prado last week and have been browsing this forum for many months leading up to my purchase, a very good resource. I have just one question at the moment...

My Prado has a DP Chip. It is going in to Toyota for a service tomorrow, should I disconnect it and hide the loom? I have been told the car will run normal without it connected, but not sure if they mean just unplug it, or do I need the original wiring loom as this one is spliced into the factory loom by the look of it, Thanks.

    Re: DP Chip

One end of the chip should be plugged into the end of the fuel rail while the other end of the chip will be plugged into the factory wiring loom. Just unplug both and then plug the factory loom into the plug at the end of the fuel rail.

It will run just with the unit removed but the dealer is likely to notice the wiring so I always remove it all.
    Thanks,

    Adam

Thanks so much, I didn't follow the loom far enough to see that it actually ended at the factory connection to the fuel rail, too easy, thanks again.

I am interested in what you expect the Toyo mechanic to say. I have had a DP on for quite a while and have never had a comment or a problem. I would think that the only issue would arise if I blew the engine, then it is my fault so... DP now guarrantee the engine with a chip for new installations. While I don't take this as gospel, it does give me more confidence. If you think it will be a problem take the thing out and sell it! But taking it in and out? errrrrrrr........

For the want of not starting a new thread, I thought I would ask a question here. I'm looking at a second hand dp chip off a 2004 1kz Prado. Will I be able to wire it up to my 2001 1kz without having to send it to dp themselves for a $150 re flash?

            Cheers,
