  • Prado 120 series decals behind rear window

    Hi All

Just a quick question, I'm in the market for a 120 series Prado and I've noticed a vehicle that does not have the decals behind the rear side windows like the others do. Does this mean the vehicle may have been in an accident such that it required a respray? What could I look at to confirm it either way?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. The first is with the decal, the second without.

Here's the one with out it:

    Thanks for your time

Some of the earlier 120s (2003) didn't have the decals. But as far as I know all the models since have had the decals

Re: Prado 120 series decals behind rear window

On questioning why one of mine was crooked, I was told by my dealer they were fitted pre-delivery (early models at least as mines a Dec 2005 build).... hence I would assume some did/some didn't get them.

I've seen quite a few without them.

If your keen to buy and can't trace the history, get it professionaly inspected and mention your concerns... no repair is perfect and a pro will find evidence if it's been repaired.

Or if you are like me, just peeled them off after delivery because I didn't like 'em. The V6 ones on my 90 series were starting to crackle and as my car is black I thought it would look crap in a few years time and then really hard to remove.

Could just be as simple as someone wanting to get rid of a few scratches so that have given the car a good buff and the stickers havn't faired well.

Re: Prado 120 series decals behind rear window

We had a March 2003 build 120 series and it came without stickers. It was sometime later, maybe the first update, that they started appearing with stickers.

Re: Prado 120 series decals behind rear window

The stickers usually are applied at the dealers prior to delivery and not at the factory.

The dealer stuffed mine up and mounted one with a wrinkle in it and the other had a huge visible chunk of backing paper stuck under it. They replaced them straight away after I pointed them out.

Don't hit 'em with the Karcher either - they tend to get stripped off pretty easily. I know, I had to replace the ones on my 90 series.

Peeled mine off. Doesn't seem to effect the ride at all...

I saw a white 120 series late last week with a metal badge where the D4D badge goes on the front gaurd with what I am sure said Hybrid with a little blue symbol in front of the word hybrid. Very similar to what the new camry and prius has but not exactly the same. I tried to get him in traffic to ask the question but didn't see him again. In case you say the owner probably put in on, you know sometimes when you look at someone and think to yourself are they that type of person this one didn't look like he would put it on himself.

being a former T worker, it is common for toyota aust to test un-released vehicles.
these normally go to either Mel (aust headquaters) or sydney(most common testing place).
i have been there and seen deliveries and housed (in a normally un-assessable garage) of different types, both toyota and lexus.
i'm sure that people that live near may have seen these vehicle out and about

driveaway deals ( eg 05 model sold in 06 at a drivewaway price).
