Driver and Passenger above head grab handles

Hi,
Looking for some advice. Purchased a 3.0L diesel GXL last year and love it, however went over some rough road and found that the above head driver and passenger grad handles hit the head with rapid sideways movement of the body.
Is there an alternative available without taking them off and leaving two open holes?

drive a little slower or hold on to the grab handles and brace yaself, if this fails wear a helmet :lol:

At 6' 2 " tall I know the feeling very well,

I even found it a pain just when turning my head right to check for traffic at a intersection.

Ended up removing the grab rail altogether, simple job haven't had a scone size lump on my forehead ever since.

The only thing I am yet to follow up is a nice looking blanking grommet to fill the void - one small project that never seems to be completed.

Yep removed drivers side one. Just put screws back in to make it look pretty. Have been looking to put something there but have not yet found anything.
Pass side does not seem to be as much of a problem though.

Thanks for the reply and glad to know that others are having the same problem. The previous model GXL Prado had retractable handles, however these do not fit the current model. Does anyone know of an alternative?
