Hi guy's first post, love the forum.

Im in the market for a new sahara. This has been my dream vehicle for many years but at 75k driveaway, spending that much turns my stomach.

What I want to know is, How good is the grande off road in stock form compared to the sahara?

With the height ajustable susp does the front also raise or just the rear?
Also how much does it raise the car in the hi setting?
I have read through the tyre thread and it seems the largest tyre on stock height is 265/70/17 based on gxl.Can you go larger again on the grande since it will/should have more clearence on the HI setting?
The reason I ask these questions is I dont want to modify the vehicle besides tyres/snorkel/bar/sliders.

    Thanks in advance.

Sahara for 75k its 90k here, you must be in another country.
It's only the back that lifts and it is 40mm higher when on high.
Great off road as has traction control.
    Standard tyres are 265/65/17R
    2006 TD Grande
    ARB Winch Bar. Rallye 4000's
    GME TX 3400
    BF Goodrich 265/65/17

75k for a 100 series land cruiser (Sahara) that is real good.
        That can't be turbo diesel?

4.7V8. If it were turbo diesel I would buy it in a flash.

What type of 4wd are you planning on doing?
I used to live in melbourne so I would set the benchmark at the high country.

Now that I live in sydney I can access sand driving which I know the prado will handle with ease.I have not been 4x4ing in sydney as yet so cant give a example on places.

So can a prado handle most track's in melbourne's high country in stock form?

I've found a few issues in Sand with the Grande & VX with the traction control...

Issue is they dont have an LSD (removed for the traction for some stupid reason??) and this can cause issues.

I am looking at fitting a rear air locker to mine one of these days to sort out the issues.

                Piggy,
Maybe you can set me straight, I have been told to only use lockers on hard surfaces, as it will only dig you in more on soft stuff like sand.
Is this wrong as i am no 4wd expert, just listen to many other peoples experiences.

I don't know how to add a link. But look at 4wd monthly do a search, type in lockers page2 of 6, post: standard diff locks?
This backs up what i mean.

Some are OK, but it will scrap the bottom more often when not...

So needs lift and better tyres...
