  • Vin Number

    Hi all,

need some help with the Vin number.
I own an 120 V6 auto and first i want to know (reading the Vin) what is the axle type that my LC has (its an 8'' or 9,25''diff) and also whats the R/P ratio.

Can anybody tell me how to read it correctly and explain to me all the letters/numbers that i see there?

    here it is :

    Thanks for any help!

    G'day GV,

Had a quick look in the factory manual but I can't see any reference list for codes.

    Good luck,

    Drew.

      Hi gv1600

I'm not sure about the VIN number, but the decode of your model number
      "GRJ125 L - GJPEKW" is as follows:

GRJ125 (Base Model Type) = 3 Door Wagon with 1GR-FE Engine
L (Steering Wheel Pos) = Left Hand Drive
G (Roof Type) = Standard Roof Type
      J (Body Type) = 3 Door Wagon
P (Gear Shift Type) = 4 Speed Automatic Transmission - Floor
      E (Grade) = Europe
K (Engine Spec) = DOHC and EFI
      W (Destination) = Europe

Then looking up your model in the Spec Sheet:

      Transmission Type = A340F
      Diff Gear Size (Front/Rear) = 8"/8"
      Diff Gear Ratio (Front/Rear) = 3.909/3.909
Max Output (kW/RPM) 183/5200 (is this what you mean by "R/P" Ratio?)
      Max Torque (Nm/RPM) 380/3800

Not sure what you exactly mean by axle type - the specs don't give details but as far as I know the standard for all 120/125's is IFS on Front and Solid Axle on rear (unless Europe is different)

I think that the numbers below the model number on the plate are trim and colour codes - but couldn't find reference to these in the manual.

      Hope that helps?

      p.s. G'day Drew:

The factory manual CD is a bit of a bug*er to find things in isn't it , but I remembered seeing model codes somewhere. It took me a while to find again, but it's under the (1st) "New Car Features" section.

      Cheers...Steve

        Well done Steve,

Admittedly I'm at work and didn't have a real thorough search, I don't think I would've thought of looking in the "New Car Features" section though.

        Cheers,

        Drew.

            Hi,
and thanks a lot for your help Steve120.

Well, i was looking to find out the Diff ratio (which is 3,9), and also most important, the Diff Gear Size, which finally is 8'' F/R as you told me before.
I thought that they 've used a 9,25'' (like 80 series) rear diff and not a 8''.
That's bad to hear...... do you know if all 120 Prado's have the same axle type F/r ?? or there are differences from Europe to Usa or to Australia?
Can you explain to me which letter(s) or which number(s) shows the Diff Gear Size and the Diff Gear Ratio please ?

            Thanks once more !!

Glad I could answer some of your questions gv.

As far as I know, all Prados have the same axle set-ups. Others on this forum may know better though?

And another look at the Toyota repair manual only shows one set of diagrams for front and rear axle assemblies (ie. no model variants). Therefore I can only assume that they're the same on all models. A quick look under the truck would verify it though?

The letters and numbers that I decoded, only give you detailed model number information for your vehicle. I then used this model number to look up the Toyota Specification sheet to give you gear size and ratios etc.

The complete spec sheet is in a PDF file, so if you let me know your e-mail address (or send it to me in a PM), I can e-mail the file to you if you'd like. That way you can see all of the specs and compare to other models.

              Cheers...Steve
