Idle Up switch
Hi
switch lifts idle when starting car. Used apparently for cold climates to speed up warm up process. Advised this by toyota service.
Next when you start the car - press it & idle jumps up noticeably.

I've tested the 'Idle Up' switch on the Prado I took delivery of this week.
You can use it any time.
It raises the rpm from idle to 1200 rpm for as long as the switch is switched on.
To me it's basically the electronic replacement for the 'wind up' hand throttle on the older Landcruiser models.
It's not just for cold weather but for any time you want an increase in the idle rpm's without the need to have your foot on the accelerator pedal. (Hill starts, etc)
The Owners Manual doesn't explain it but the Japanese-English translations of explanations in a number of sections requires reading the section more than once to figure exactly what they are trying to say.Adrian.

try you idle up switch again when the engine warms up, unless yours is different, most of us have found it becomes inoperative when warm or even hotter weather :?: :?:
Japanese-English translation?? not in my Owners Manual.

Thats because your ambient temp is above the temp that the Idle Up cuts out at. Come down South for hols and I'm sure it will work :P

I've been trying it out on the cold mornings here.
We've had frosts the last 3.
It seems like the "Idle Up" only works at temperatures below about 8 degrees celcius.

On the UK spec cars, this button is labelled 'Power Heat' and it is definitely designed to increase the revs at idle to heat the engine up quicker and to compensate for higher electrical load on cold mornings etc.
As you can imagine, it works much of the time here! :roll:
Great forum by the way, just dicsovered it. There doesn't seem to be anything similar over here for the 120. There's a very popular forum for Landrover Discovery 3 owners - they use it as a sort of counselling resource for discussing all the problems they have. Ha ha!Comment

tried mine today with the temp down to cold and nothing but then drive for about 5 mins and tried it again with the temp almost half and it worked, now thats confusing!![img]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e39/intens/4by.gif[/img]
