  • whistle at 70km/h

I understand this is clutching at straws and is difficult to answer but I will give it a go anyway. I have a whistle in the car that happens around 70sh and it is a wind noise rather than an rev specific noise. It was like the whistle that came with the snorkel before I filled in the gaps on the ram head. The whistle is coming from the front of the car somewhere but I can't find it. I have used copious amounts of masking tape looking but with no luck. I am rather hoping someone else has gone through a similar thing and has had success. I am not sure if it is coming from the bullbar (arb) or something else. I understand this is wishful thinking but will see how I go.

My UHF antenna whistles as a certain speed, just above 60 I think, but it is mounted on the bonnet on the drivers side, so is quite close to me. No one else can hear it. Its the elevated feed GME fibreglass one.

It was my understanding that under the General section, it was a place for topics that didn't really fit anywhere else............like this one.

I would have thought that gaining knowledge about a 120 series prado fit pretty well under the 120 series section.
        Rant over.

I have spent ages with a roll of Masking tape, taping up any holes I could find on the bullbar. I hadn't thought about the antenna, might drop that off and go for a drive and see what happens. Thanks dereki for the suggestion.

          I was making a joke.

Meaning: I thought this thread would teach me to whistle at 70km/h.

As in "How to whistle at 70km/h."

I won't give up my day job.

Same whistle here around the same speed i think it is the air passing between the body and the upright section of the snorkle you will notice there is a gap. I found the best solution is to do 80

Seriously im not sure how you would fix it as i only seem to get it when a strong cross wind is present
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further

Not the ones to let the water out I hope?

Thanks for your concern Mick. I put a bead of sikaflex behind the front grill to fill some small gaps where the grill meets the head not the gaps at the bottom of the head that allows water to escape. That got rid of that wistle but I can't find this one. It may be one of those ones that bugges me for some time.

Try rotating the clamp so the worm drive is at the back :?:

                          Re: whistle at 70km/h

Yep, had already tried the turning the clamp around (just had to go out to the car to check ) I am guessing when I do find it it will be one of those "oh yeah" moments.
I even tried running a bead of Silicone Blue Maxx behind the plastic inserts in the ARB Bullbar in hope. I even throught that had worked for a little while but back that bloody wistle came. Grrrrrr
