  • Fluids, Oils and Greases.

I have a 2003 GX turbo diesel and I want to save money and replace all fluids myself. What I need to know is what are the best to get? I need viscosities and amounts, etc so I can purchase the right oils for the diffs, transfer case, gearbox and sump. The proper red coolant that the vehicle uses. Brake Fluid. Greases for my grease gun for the tail shaft, etc, etc. Are some brands better than others? Do I need special equipment for say, emptying/filling the diff/gearbox, etc? I'll write down all replies so I'll have a comprehensive document to work from. Thanks in anticipation.

    Regards,

All this info is in your owners manual.

Stick with the main stream companies and you'll be fine, ie; Mobil/Caltex/Penrite etc etc.

The only stand out is the coolant. It's generally accepted that the genuine coolant is the best choice for long term protection and peace of mind.

Whilst no special equipment is needed to complete any of the fluid changes, some things can just make life easier; An oil gun or small pump bottle (for refilling diffs, gearbox and transfer) and a brake bleed tool spring to mind as things that make these jobs a little more pleasant.

      Re: Fluids, Oils and Greases.

My only 2 reccomendations is to stick with factory coolant as it is good and if you change there is a hell of a lot of flushing involved. It is not worth it as you only replace the coolant every 2 years anyway.

The other one as they are so complex is to stick with the factory auto gearbox fluid for some reasons they do not like change.

For everthing else i stick with castrol simply because that is what the mechanic has
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further
