I guess there are many differences from one brand to another. What muffling system is used, and what are they using for a dump pipe would be the most important questions to ask.
If the tube is ben with a mandrell bender, then crimping of the tube will be kept to a minimum which is what we are after for better gas flow.

IMO its in the way the bends r done, mandrel is the way to go, this gives you a constant diameter all the way through where the std bend narrows down where it has been in the die, another determining factor is whether its a stainless of mild steel construction, of course stainless is more $, but a this doesnt impact on performance, it just lasts a bit longer, also as long as the boxes and resonators r high flow and of course you have to throw on a larger diameter dump pipe off the turbo, so if you want to pay up to $2000 for and exhaust be my guest, they will give you better drivability and performance but its not what you know but who. cheers samo

3 inch seems to be the most popular size however my own reaserch into this topic has indicated if you are not going to get a larger dump pipe as well you may as well not bother
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further

When I was speaking with they guys at Beudesert recently, I was advised that 3" is too big for the 120 D4D. I was told that 3" would actually reduce power and 2.75" was the way to go.

I've heard that 3" on the Prado is too large as well. on a Landcruiser or Patrol it's fine since they have a larger engine and high output of exhaust gases. I'm not sure if it was suggested to me when I enquired sometime back for a 2.75" or a 2.5" system. Foggy memory today.

Re: 3inch exhaust name brand or ordinary brand??

There is definitely disagreement between the big, well respected manufacturers as too which is the most appropriate size for a 3.0 D4D. Beaudesert will tell you 2.75" where as TaipanXP will tell you 3". If you look at the quoted performance figures and dyno charts for both there is very little difference. When I was researching, I couldn't find any concrete evidence that either of these manufacturers / sizes was better then the other. In the end I went with a TaipanXP system simply because of availability and the good service provide by the local agent. The TaipanXP system definitely improved the "seat of the pants" drivability and a dyno run showed a 9% increase in torque. I am confident that a Beaudesert system would provide similar results.
One thing to be aware of is that some of the cheaper systems available do not include a Cat. In some states, not running a Cat. on a D4D could lead to severe penalties under environmental protection laws.

As previously mentioned what ever system you go for make sure in includes an upgraded dump pipe. When replacing the dump pipe it is the ideal time to install an EGT gauge. Which if you’re going to be pushing the engine hard, towing or off road, or thinking of changing the tune via chip, is the best way to make sure you are not going to cook the turbo.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I haven't hooked it up yet, so comment about how well or not it works. I bought it because it was the cheapest I could find. Not sure if that is the wisest move, but the guage looks to be OK.

Beaudesert told me it was a waste of time going to a 3" because the turbo was only 2.75", you wernt actually achieving anything, but what ive been reading it doesnt seem to make a lot of difference between the two, i think its more important to have the mandrel bends to create that free flow for the exhaust gasses

Question for ya Leachy. Can I ask the approximate cost of your system? This is something I've been toying with myself. Good couple of K I assume? Still, you only live once. 8) The good service also has me interested too. Can't stand 'don't care' service!
