  • Belts and Hoses

Well, thought I'd do the usual trip preparation and get me a drive belt and top and bottom radiator hoses as part of the basic spares to carry on our next trip. Easy enough I thought, Toyota must have plenty!. Imagine my surprise when I find out there are none for the 120 D4D anywhere is Australia and they don't know when they'll be in the country!!!! If anyone in Brissie can help me out I'd be mighty abliged. Must be all you folks heading out country that have depleted the nation's stocks! Can't believe Toyota don't have such basic spares. Don't know what's happening if people need them to get mobile again.

    What about aftermarket?

Maybe try Terrain Tamer, they do a lot of belt and hose "Kits"

I agree with Mick. When Toyota finally get hold of the parts you will have to trade your 1st born for them. I remember getting a quote for a genuine alternator bely for my 1KZ and it was ~$100 for one belt! Genuine Tojo parts are good but not that good. I think I paid ~$40 for a pair of Dayco belts from a local supplier.

So shop around. Just make sure (whoever sells you the parts) they are correct as parts interpreters as they like to call themselves do seem to get it wrong (even Toyota).

Me personally I would take the piece of mind and fit the new parts before the trip and take the old ones along as spares, that way you can find out in your driveway that some idiot has sold you a belt that is 15mm too short....

Thanks, yep, tried Terrain Tamer, don't stock them for the 1KD, there was a mob on ebay, Roo Spares, who advertised they had them but have since contacted me to say they can't source anything either. Also no luck at Repco. Seems the car is too "new" to have these type of aftermarket bits yet.

I can take a generic hose I guess. Does anyone know if/where I can source one of those emergency link belts. I know they made them for V belts years ago (orange in colour from memory). Not sure if they make them long enough and in the ribbon style that would fit the D4D?

It's a bit frustrating really, didn't think I'd have this trouble for common parts from Toyota.

Having the same experience. Scifleet advised no hoses in country and not available aftermarket as yet. Have a mate that works for an auto parts and could not source them either.

so only was able to get air filter, fuel filter and still waiting on belts.

            Cheers

I've used "rescue tape" which the guy flogs at all the 4wd, boating and camping shows on a radiator hose and it worked a treat - you might be able to get away with a roll or two of that and not have to carry spare hoses.

Hi, I tried to buy a spare belt last week and my local auto parts store cant even find a listing for one. with less the 15k on the clock i dont expect to have a problem, but i guess thats how you get into trouble, not planning for the unexpected.

                  Cheers Andrew

Looks like hoses will be available again soon with dealers. I was advised that they have arrived "in Melbourne", so I guess it won't be long before they are out and about. There are limited belts with dealers and by searching around I was able to get one. You need to find a dealer that has one in stock.

Was not too bad on price...48 for the belt and about 20 each for the hoses.

Hey guys i don't own a 1kd, but when i got my K&N air filter for the V6, they couldnt find a listing for it, but looked further and found the hilux with same motor had same air filter and it fits perfectly. Might be worth a try as a question to the parts person , at least for the belts anyway- Hoses are probably gonna be different. Good luck with the search

                            Hi guys,

When I did the trip to WA in 2007, I had trouble getting belts for my 1KZ. I had to wait a week for the local dealer to get me the top and bottom hoses and a complete belt set. They came from dealers across the country, hoses were from Queensland. Including the service manual on CD, I paid about $150 for the lot.

I recommend getting them before any long trip, my local service centre said everything was ok with the belts and hoses. Typical, middle of nowhere, north of Geraldton, 45 degrees, and the insides starts to get warmer. Pull over and find the air-con belt sitting on to of the auxilary battery. Replaced belt and cabin nice and cool again.

                            Mark.
