Its the fact that Oil vapours can coat the interior walls of the charge piping and also the inside of the intercooler, this adds an insulating layer between the aluminium intercooler fins and the charge air that needs to be cooled. Last one we cleaned we took off and let sit upright into a open tin, 140 mls of oil came out over night..

I tried it on a 150 and using the torque pro app and OBDII dongle i saw no difference in the behavior of the EGR valve.

I tried a similar unit on my colorado (Isuzu) and from the data on torque pro it reduced the opening of the EGR valve massively, but it was not permanently closed, just most of the time.

All these units do is trick the sensor into thinking that the intake temperature is about zero degrees, in many cars this input changes the activation of the EGR causing it to remain closed, or mostly closed. My experience (with one vehicle) is that this input is not used by the prado as a control for the EGR.

Some oil in the intake of a diesel engine has measurable benefits for reducing valve seat recession

    Hi Piggy,
Yeh realise that mate, but if egr is closed I been told catch can is then not as essential. Probably still gunna fit one but was enquiring mainly about the chip play unit. Claims that no check lights created with full egr block.
    cheers

A Catch Can and EGR block are two totally different things.

    Chiptuning plugnplay egr block.

Hi Guys. Has anyone had any experience with the plug n play egr block from Chiptuning on their D4D 120. Was thinking of a catchcan but this seems to be a great option and yes I know it's not strictly legal
Seems to good to be true.
    cheers
