  • upgrading exhaust in Petrol prado V6 4L

    Hi
Looking to add some grunt to my Prado, V6 petrol with all parts stock around the engine.
Not looking for 5000RPM, more low end grunt for 4WD
Any suggestions on brand or model types within the brand

    Thanks for looking

I think you're wasting your money if you're just after power gains. The factory one looks fairly decent I think any gains you'd get you wouldn't even notice.

Find a TRD supercharger and put some boost into it!

Off topic but I'm surprised there isn't more people looking at engine swaps. As good as the 1GR is I'd love to see someone try fit a 3UR FE or something in.

Factory headers are not that flash
supercharger upgrade cost is substantially more, given auto, transfer case and diff strengthening, let alone engine rebuild

would swap it out for LS1 or 351 clevo, although drivetrain would need amending

Yeah they might not look flash but they are probably designed to give a decent amount of low response. Save your pennies unless you need a new exhaust/headers anyway.

I've got a 120. I put on extractors and performance exhaust, didn't notice any difference, but I lifted it at the same time so lost power due to extra wind drag. Then put on a stainless steel snorkel and noticed a definite improvement. Also a throttle controller made a big difference in responsiveness. Installing a magnuson (trd) supercharger next week as I'm still wanting more low end. That should do it I'd say.

Are you sure you noticed a “definite” improvement with the snorkel? My experience would tell me if you noticed an improvement, you most likely imagined it. After the air filter is a really fine micro mesh screen that is designed to slow down & “straighten” the airflow for the MAF to get the most accurate readings. An air filter followed by a second restriction within close proximity negates the idea of a snorkel causing increased performance. Removing the mesh screen would certainly give a very slight but noticeable improvement right through the whole rev range as one air flow restriction would then be removed, but I’m not in anyway recommending you do this though.
