Hi Prado Peoples,

I need to transport my motorbike and have a potential solution

I was wondering if this product fits on a 2007 Prado 120 Series and if it can take the weight?

I dont understand the jargon around towing as I have never towed before.
Can it take up to 227 kg hanging off the Tow Hitch?
Does it take a 2" Hitch?
Are there any considerations I should be making?
Are there NSW laws around this that I should be aware of?

From memory the 120 can have a 250kg ball weight.
Basically you are doing the same thing as putting a trailer with a 227kg ball weight on the back.
Strength wise it should be ok (check the tow bar plate), but you may want to upgrade the springs if you use it regularly.
Check the RMS rules on rear overhang, but you’d be pretty unlucky to get pinged for that even if you are over. You’ll probably need to relocate the rear lights onto a trailer style board so they can still be seen.

Also remember that you’ll have a lot of leverage weight out the back with it all on the so take it really easy over rough roads!!

In NSW, You can only go 60% of wheelbase projection from centre of the rear axle. This means 1604mm from centre of the rear axle rearwards is the maximum (604mm from the rear bumper max rear projection).

I was unsure as the vehicle design laws state the 60% rule is for the actual car body.
The only laws I could find on rear projection of the actual load came back with 1200mm from the body.
I lived in NSW for ten years and could never get a clear answer.
Probably better to take piggy’s advice and you won’t get into trouble.

This is a screenshot from a NSW steel supplier with a link to the RMS. These guys are normally on top of the rules as they can be liable for over loading.
I am in no way dogmatic about this as I could never find a proper answer so please correct me if I’m wrong, if not hopefully this helps to clear this up for someone one day

This is pretty well the current from my checks. 60% of Wheelbase from centre of rear axle is the limit we stick to in NSW. (Top image).
