  • Air con controls connected to stereo?

Hi guys. I have a 120 series Prado that has had an aftermarket stereo installed. The touch screen display for the vent controls doesn't seem to work, and I've been told that it's linked to the original stereo. If the original stereo is changed, and not retained in the car (hidden somewhere and still connected to the touch screen display) then the a.c. and vent controls won't work.

Any truth to this? Sounds weird...

Did your original setup have the extra Navigation function? If yes that could be the issue as there were two versions of the 120 Auto Airconditioning Controls one that worked with Navigation (Airconditioning ECU) and one without Navigation (Airconditioning Control Assembly). Not certain if there is a workaround to fool the ECU if the Nav Unit is unplugged, or if its plug and play to change these over but could be a start point for you to check (but the connectors that plug into both are at least the same according to the wiring diagram).

Edit: If its any help doing a quick search on the parts catalogue I think the part number for Aust 2006+ models with Nav Version is 55900-6A134 and Non Nav (AUDIO-AM/FM/CASETTE/CDCHANGER) is 55900-60604. The Nav version seems to send and/or receive data from the Nav Display Unit via the Gateway ECU but no idea what this is doing or why it would cause the A/C display to shut down if not connected.

Remove the left hand AC trim of the centre console and check that the large white plug with a screw in the middle is correctly inserted.

If still no go, you will need to rip out the centre console and make sure that the connectors behind the climate control unit are connected.

I'm not aware of any 120 models with a touch screen control for the climate control. They are push buttons.

Mine is an Asian 2003 Prado 120 with button AND touch control for AC. Pressing the first button pulls up AC controls on the display.
I can't change fan speed from the AC controls below the LCD so for that I have to use touch display. My LCD is rather burnt and thinking about installing an aftermarket unit but I don't know if my AC will still work. My system does consist of a NAV unit below driver seat, cd changer in glove box, tv tuner, factory amp under passenger seat.
