  • Windscreen blues

I can't believe my bad luck with windscreens. 2 years ago I picked up a bad stone chip on the drivers side on perfect bitumen road. No big deal as my insurance policy gives me a free windscreen per year and the policy had just been paid for another year so I got it replaced. Exactly 2 weeks later while travelling on the Freeway of all places I got whacked by a rock and back to square one again. I put up with that chip for almost a year and as soon as the policy was due I got it replaced again. That was exactly 2 weeks ago and guess what. Coming home from the mid-west today on the Brand Hwy, again on perfect bitumen road and whack, another big stone chip on my new windscreen. To add insult to injury 5 minutes later another chip this time from a car overtaking me.

What is it with my 90 series? My old Hilux went everywhere over a 13 year life and never so much as a small chip. This 90 series is jinxed when it comes to glass!

I know how you feel Mark,

Copped a chip in the windscreen ON THE WAY HOME from the auto glass place after having mine replaced.

    Just can't win!

    Cheers,

I know the feeling: I was travelling around Tassie this year chasing a bunch of Targa Tas race cars as dedicated refueller.. of all the cars we had there as service or race vehicles the following happened.
EVO VI (Racecar) Badly chipped screen.
      Mazda CX9: broken screen.
      BMW X5: Badly chipped screen.
Prado Grande 120. Broken screen coming back across to ADL..

      All in 5 days!!!...

Screen replaced on prado, and 2 months later, broken again. Bugger...

Mine leaks water - I am guessing from a previous (sub standard) replacement. I want to get it replaced but I know if I do it will probably get broken 2 days later! Old Murphy and his silly laws hey...?

We have a Tropie at work, the old one was replaced after 6 years, 130k and at least 1/2 dozen windscreens.

Got in the new one Friday night to drive to Gold Coast and noticed the screen had a 6" crack in the middle of the bottom of screen, so its now 18 mths old 28k and now about to have its screen replaced for the 2nd time!!!!

Obviously the near vertical screen is a magnet for rocks.

My 120 coped 6 chips in the first week I had it driving to Grafton, haven't gotten around to replacing it, but hasn't had 1 since (2 yrs), but I'm sure once it's replaced I'll get another!!!

Be carefull with your leaky screen Chrisso. I had to get some rust repaired at the top of my windscreen before the last relacement screen went in as the clowns who replaced the previous screen had damaged the clear coat on the paint when they cut the rubber seal out. I carry a surf ski around a lot which drips salty water on the top of the screen area. One of the few places a Prado will rust if water gets in there.

            Cheers

I got a stone chip in my front windscreen from a truck on the Woodie Woodie Road as I waited to turn into the Carawine Gorge turnoff. Bugger I thought. Then two days later a large rock bounced off the camper trailer and shattered the back window as I approached the Woodie Woodie Road when leaving Carawine Gorge. Both front and rear windows damaged less that 200 metres from each other.

Get a new one every year via insurance. When I 1st moved to NQ i got chips patched until a realised that by the end of the year I could barely see out the front. In the dry season they constantly repair the Bruce Hway. In the wet, the highway is constantly coming apart.
