I'd like to mount a winch in my Toyota genuine Sovereign bar and discover the winch cradle required is no longer available. I'm assuming the bar is capable given it has holes for it, but I appear to need something to mount the winch into that's fixed to the chassis. Do any members here have experience putting a winch into this bar? I really don't have the funds for a new bar. I'm concerned about doing anything custom because I expect there are rules to remain compliant and rules about the airbags and crash safety. Do any members have a second hand cradle for this bar they could sell me? Please help!

Winch in a Sovereign Bar

The actual bar is not capable of holding a winch. it only supports a fairlead. The winch is mounted behind the bar on a separate frame that is bolted independently to the chassis. Seen posts only in last few days on a facebook page where some are foolishly suggesting just bolt the winch to the bar. that would be a recipe for disaster.

Hi,
there is several articles on Prado point relating to fitting a winch to the soverign bullbar. I was in the same position as you and wanted to fit a winch. I still haven't fitted a winch but I have fitted the required components, so the bar is now winch compatible.
You will need a winch cradle and depending on whether your bar has the recall brackets on it or not - you may require those. The recall brackets are a lot more solid than the original bullbar barckets. My prado is 2004 model and didn't have the recall brackets fitted. i managed to source some off gumtree. You may be able to get some from a wrecker if you require them.
If yours does have the recall brackets on it you should still be able to get a winch cradle through Toyota. I picked up one for about $330 from memory. see the attached part numbers for the things you may require.
PZQ29602WC 120 Winch Cradle to suit "recall" brackets
PZQ296016ZBK 120 Sovereign bullbar recall kit (brackets only)
PZQ296016ZFK 120 Sovereign Bullbar fitting kit (includes chassis pin)
hope that helps.
cheers,
Simon
