  • Reset immobiliser for new keys

    Hey folks,

I own a 2008 120 diesel Prado, and had BOTH of my black "master" keys stolen last weekend. Fortunately they didn't take the car, and I had the grey "valet" key squirrelled away in a cupboard.

I've spoken to a few auto locksmiths, and they've quoted me north of $600 for an "immobiliser reset" and two new keys.

I'm just curious to see if anyone knows how this is done - is there an EEPROM chip on the ECU board that can be "virginised"? I've seen videos where people do this using fairly simple hardware.

Or is this something that's done using magic Toyota service equipment?
