I was just reading that the roof limit on the prado is 100kg. So what happens if you put a roof top tent on? the tent probably weighs 30-40kg + the weight of the roof rack say 30kg+ the weight of two people say 150kg, thats well over the rated roof limit! any one had any drama's with this much weight on the roof structure :?:

Re: Limit
Yes, Scott is correct. I've looked into RoofTop tents myselfs including the one from ARB. Three support Bars would be my recommendation, not just off the Roof Rails if you have. I think the Tent was about 60kg I think. The 100kg limit is for when the vehicle is moving. Your load would generate extra forces in the event of an accident/rollover. I'm not sure what the standing still weight of the Roof is. Most Roof Racks for the Prado are rated at 90kg or 100kg. That is the weight I would be working from whilst on the move.Originally posted by scottThat 100Kg would be for a moving vehicle.
Centre of gravity !
Roll over !

Re: roof top tents
the 100kg limit is for a vehicle doing 100km/h, its a force thing, stationary if you put a rooftop tent and a rack up therem you r probably looking at 60kg. plus 2 adults sleeping up there it will be up to 200kg or more depending on the phsyical size of the adults, just a thought, i have the h/d toyota roof bars x3 but its still limited to 100kg, you will find most gutterless vehicles r close to this load limithad an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

Re: roof top tents
the load limit of 100kg is for a moving vehicle. Its perfectly fine to sleep afew adults in the rooftop, just dont do it whilst moving, cause it would be over the load limit. ( and unsafe if you fell out  )2000 Toyota Prado GXL- Gone, but not forgotten...

(1) don't sleep on the roof while the car is moving  ; or
(2) don't move too much while sleeping on the car  .
Either way, it made me laugh.  [B][SIZE=4]ntp
