Don't understand what you're getting at sorry.
I would think the traction control is smart enough to detect that the car is moving, and not activate. When a wheel is spinning and the car is not moving, it brakes that wheel to give the opposite side wheel a shot at getting traction. Happy to be corrected but I thought that's the way it worked.

Anyway my owners book ( I have GXL with TC/VSC) clearly says that engaging centre diff lock disables the VSC only.

I think the key point is that traction control only acts if one or two wheels are spinning crazily compared to the other two. In mud all 4 (usually ops: ) are spinning madly so it's all good!!!!!!

there's only one way to resolve this ,but im prepared to take it on for the good of all prado pointers. on this fine sunny spring friday afternoon , im going to have to go out and do exhuastive research into the wanton burning of fossil fuels and blatant misuse of traction aids . for research purposes you understand .after said research i may have to sit back and collate my findings , this may possibly involve beer or rum . but once again and i stress all in the name of research . this will hopefully be a dirty job , but ill prepare for it . findings may not be conclusive the first time around and i may have to repeat the process numerous times , but one day possibly we may get a result . im prepared to take one for the team . if i don't come back , don't look for me ,ill be having a good time .

              Re: Mud driving in VX

Isn't the idea of the Traction Control to send power to the wheel that has the most grip so that you don't have wheel spin? I have just been up the Strzeleckie Track and to The Dig Tree through mud where the car was at times, sideways but as soon as I pushed the Central Diff Lock; the car straightened and only the tyre with the most grip gets the power and you just keep moving ahead: without any wheel spin!!!! We got bogged into a sand hole and water at The Dig Tree and put it in reverse and pushed the Central Diff Lock and it just drove out backwards as if you were on solid bitumen; again no wheel spin!! Isn't that how it should work?? When we were coming out of The Dig Tree area which is a 14km dirt road, we were driving down the centre of the road under control and 3 cars were coming in and they were sideways with the cars going down one side of the road and their trailers swinging on the other side of the road. We had quite a scary moment as they went past us and hoped for no sideswipe. May I mention that none of the 3 cars was a Prado; they were from other manufacturers.
Forgot to mention but should have: ONLY 25PSI in the tyres; the most important feature of driving on dirt. We didn't have one flat tyre or tyre problem while the tyres were at 25PSI but we did have one tyre go flat with a stone in it when the tyres were at 32/36PSI before we lowered the presssure.
Another thing I forgot to mention but should have. We drove on those crappy Dunlop Grandtrek AT20s too with only about 20% tread left. Now I know there are much better tyres but they kept us going......hoping to get some new tyres in the next couple of months.

                Re: Mud driving in VX

I experienced extremely slippery oozy mud about 30cm deep in a State Forest near the Murray River, just a couple of days ago.
I broke through crust and was in it before I had time to engage Centre Diff Lock.
The car slowed right down, like it just had no power, and the ASC beeper was going off like mad.
I quckly hit the CDL button, the ASC was disabled, and the traction control started working as it should, it just walked the vehicle out of the bog.

Very happy with the TC, not so happy with the 15 bucks it took at the carwash to get all the sticky mud out of the guards and under the car.
I guess the point of this ( to me anyway ) is to engage the centre diff lock well before you get into any situation.
                Cheers, Wayne

                    Re: Mud driving in VX

I've engaged mine while on the move when I've got to a slippery patch of mud then disengaged it again after as it locks the wheels together and that is not good on a solid surface; you need the diffs working properly.

I do it all the time whilst moving - it's going from Hi to Lo range I need to stop for.
