  • preloved 120 opinions please

My mate is looking at this 120 on ebay,

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Toyota-landcruis ... 1c159e1cc9

Looks good, and sounds good. He is not worried about the previous damage (revs check repairable writeoff)

Low kms & its alot less then what they paid 2 years ago,

    What do you guys think?

Yeah I saw that too. There is something awfully suspicious about the whole thing :!: In the add there is a photo that is claimed to represent the damaged that rendered the car a "repairable write off" :?: I doubt very much that that level of damage would render it a write off. But of course there may have been damaged elsewhere that is not visible in the photo as the gap between the 1/4 panel and rear door looks non-existent - possible rear end shunt. But then why is the photos dated 11/5/2010 when the claim is that is was purchased 2 years ago??

I would check this out thoroughly if your friend chooses to proceed and also what are the insurance ramifications?

    Cheers

I thought the same. The damage in the pic is not enough to write it off. Theres more to this...

        Re: preloved 120 opinions please

For a 6y.o. GXL with repairable write off status, it's cheap but not that cheap.

Also, there's nothing wrong with owning the Prado for the last 2 years and having an accident and photo taken in May 2010. I don't see what the problem is regarding this.

But the car does look sus. For it to be a write off, the damage would have needed to be around $20 big ones or more.

seems a bit fishy if they paid $52000 for a 4 year old prado that was worth 55000 new? Redbook lists 2004 gxl diesel at 28-31k. Usually write off when repair costs are over 70% of vehicles value

Thanks guys. Apparently the guy will take 27500~ (my mate told me, but I cant remember exact figure.) I think the $52k 2years ago is BS. Will keep you posted

Tassie Tiger, I would think normally early to mid 30's would be a reasonable price yeah.

a picture tells a thousand words. and if you dont take decent pictures of a car you're trying to sell, that says you're trying to hide alot of those thousand words.

Hi, I would not touch a repairable write off as it would be very hard to sell later down the track. Motor dealers will not touch them at all, so you can never trade one in. The only way you can sell one is private and the buyers are limited due to the write off tag. I would also check out insurance as you may have troubles with this also.

                        Re: preloved 120 opinions please

Be very careful with cars on E-bay, its the favoured place for unscrupulous sellers, particularly if they don't have a solid trading history with feedback. About 25% of the cars stolen each year in Australia are never recovered. This means that the rebirthing industry is substantial in this country and many "RR" vehicles are repaired with stolen parts. A REVS check will NOT tell you if a car has been re birthed. Maybe it's a genuine deal, but then again, I'm not sure how confident I would be buying a Prado from someone who took photos of their pride and joy with fingers covering the lens of the camera. My 5c worth....

Yes this is one to avoid like the plague, The seller has no history as well as the single bidder, there are no contact details, and what they say just doesn't add up. The single bidder seems to have made two bids but only one shows up, the picture is not of a repairable write off either, that is just a flared guard missing and a bit of paint, that would only be $5000 at the very most.
