  • Defining 'upgrade' on a 2008 GXL D4D.

    Hi all,

First of all, great forum. Nearly too much information! Been trolling the pages and drooling over the work done, and how good most of the Prados have come up, and some of the trips you have all done.........

Anyway, I have been looking at a Prado (both the 120 & 150), but am not sure I can justify 60k for a 150 GXL (and that 60k is without 4WD extras), but have a manual 2008 GXL 'upgrade' D4D that i'm very interested in. Only done 40000, and still has balance of NC warranty, but what is 'upgrade'? Is that an option pack? Are the option packs worth it?

    Too many decisions...........

    Cheers in advance

There was a 2007 upgrade which was released towards the latter half of 07 that included rear air conditioner (for the kids etc) as well as the steering controls for the stereo. As for a 08 upgrade, it actually might be plated 07, but first reg in 08 if they are calling it in 08 upgrade. Not sure there.

I'm fairly sure there was no upgrades that warranted an 'upgrade' title in 2008 (besides an apparent injector upgrade).

EDIT: Its possible the upgrade refers to option packs. Cant recall from memory what are included though.

I can email you the 2008 brochure if you want to check off the specs.

Oh and the option pack in the manual was the side airbags. Stability control and the other electronic bits weren't offered with the manual.

Option Pack 1 (manual models only)
Front Side Airbags & Curtain Shield Airbags

Hi Micheal, That would be great if you can send the brochure through, I'm 99% at this stage for the car. Its a dark grey colour, which i know isn't the best for dirt/scratches, but i do like the colour, and if ya find a good one, then colour doesn't really matter,

I think your right as well switched, it does have the volume controls on the wheel and the climate controls. It is a April 08 model.

Thanks for the info, good to work out just what it is i'm going to try to get into!

          Side air bags, I think.

That's what we have. Its a good bus. I wouldn't sweat about 'worth it', you don't pay much for option packs second hand, just look at the condition of the vehicle, don't pay too much for it and you'll be right.

              Cheers all,

I agree with the bang for your bucks, as i can add eveything (as of this moment anyway! )to it for 4WD and still be 6K better off than a new 150.

Hopefully will post photos of it very soon on PP

              Cheers

Re: Defining 'upgrade' on a 2008 GXL D4D.

I would think the "upgrade" refers to the following which came as standard from the 08 GXL on :
                - roof rails
                - climate control dual aircon with separately controllable rear aircon
                - upgraded stereo/6 stacker with bluetooth, iPOD port etc.

The twin climate control works really well, definitely worth having. Rear air I could take or leave.

As for Option Pack 1, I believe it was a factory fitted only option. ( no dealer or aftermarket fit ). You can tell if it is fitted in two ways 1) look for the embossed SRS Airbag label in the A pillar trim and "airbag" warning labels on front seats or 2) look in the service handbook "as delivered" spec sheet inside front cover.
                Cheers, Wayne

No good on that particlur car  Haven't had much luck lately with trying to purchase, but like they say, when you fall off the horse, get straight back on.

I like the 08 model, climate control is a plus, plus the stereo controls on the wheel. So will keep trying for one of them, hey you never know, the longer I wait the more money I will have for extras etc!

Cheers again for your help, and hopefully I will be 'one' of the forum enjoying a Prado soon, :P
