They did an "adjustment" but now the gap on the bar is between 18 and 24 mm (depending where you measure) and the inner guards, although in place, do not seem snug as they were. I will have to take it back to them for another look.

Third try - good outcome. This time the service manager personally took a look at the fitting and was full of apologies for a "clearly unacceptable job". The bar has now been refitted and the inner guards have both been fixed. Although it took them a few goes, all in all they looked after us quite well - especially when you consider that they do not service our truck.

Neil, when we got ours back the gap was so wide I could literally slide the side of my hand into it - around 24mm - the bar looked like it was ready to drop off. Now they have gone to the other extreme, see post above, and the gap is much narrower - about 10mm. I do hope there is enough flex room in that. Cheers, Bear

Well i took mine into CMI in Adelaide yesterday for the check. And yes i need new mounts. Although I am a little worried after hearing all the good reports of the work by the Toyota dealers...

The are ordering the mounts in, so I'll let you all know how i get on.

You only ever hear about the horror stories. No one really says any thing when an OK job was done. If a great job was done then you might hear about it.

I received a letter from Toyota yesterday indicating that my vehicle may require an inspection and replacement. The letter is written in such a way that they don't know if the owner has a sov bar which is fair enough. I could have purchased one after delivery and it would not show on their records. I've seen a few sold through here.

Bear, I wonder if different models have slightly different mountings to the chassis, causing varying gaps OR if the plastic top on the bar varies slightly in thickness? I can see no way of getting more than 10 mm on mine as it is unless I undo all of the bolts from the bracket to chassis bracket [car end] to see if there is any movement there. I was my understanding that the up/down adjustment came from the bar to bracket mounting and not the car end of that bracket. Does anyone who has the instructions know? Neil :?

Mate I really can't comment as all I know is what happened with ours. :| Only time will tell if the gap is large enough to cope with movement while off-road.

Just got my letter, and I have an ARB bar fitted...

Toyota ask me to answer the two questions.. and send my reply back....

                1. Is your vehicle fitted with a Bullbar?
                2. Is it a Toyota genuine alloy bullbar?

My question is do I have to respond? being a bit of a paranoid person regarding giving out personal information I am inclined to throw it in the bin as you never know what this information could lead to... CMI toyota at eastside have been servicing my 2003 Grande for its entire life so know what it has on it, but I don't think I have any obligation to send this stuff back to toyota....

                Thoughts?

                  PK,
It's interesting that Toyota don't appear to keep an accurate trail of these things. I've just received the same letter. I filled it out and returned it anyway, though I do have the Soverign fitted.

I think this letter went out to ALL Prado owners, not just those with the bar.
I have the bar, but bought it second hand and installed it myself.

So, I'd guess, if you have a Prado, you'd expect a letter at some stage. Mate of mine from work, bought his GXL a few months after mine, I got my letter three weeks ago, he go his last week.

When our car went in the recovery points were on the car, they tried to hit my wife up for $120 dollars for them to remove and refit the points. OMG 4 bolts that take about 10 min for me to do would take then 5min. We are trying a new dealer after the first crew stuffed the original install completely. they chopped off the plastic inner guard and help it on with cable ties. Where do you get good service FFS.

Another painful experience and a tale of woe from my local "dealer"

I'm not naming names but just look at my location and you'll be able to work it out for yourself........

Got the recall, booked it in, and when I collected it the bonnet fouled the top bar so much I couldn't open it!

So, it had to go in another day because they were far too busy to do it the next day......

Dropped it off again and upon collection I looked under the car to see they simply chopped through the sidelight/indicator wiring and repaired each cable with a tape joint......

Needless to say I left, yet again, extremely disappointed secure in the knowledge I'l never return

Brilliant lesson in how to p*ss your customers off - continually - every time it's been in their "capable hands" I have had to put it right after

Very happy with it now I've sorted it

Shame really because the car really has been faultless - shame the same can't be said about this dealer :?

Anybody got any recomendations for a dealer NOR in Perth WA? Good or bad...

                          Cheers in advance

Found that they had just cut through the wiring to my lights as well.
Just twisted together and taped up.
Would have lasted 6 months maybe.

Perfect fit, no damage, they even polished the bullbar. No complaints from me. I disconnected all the lighting and antennas for them, to make it a bit easier for them and to lessen any chance of damage. The new brackets certainly stiffen-up the bullbar, doesnt move about anywhere near as much as before.

Shame really as there are three, screw terminals in each of the lights and it adds another ten minutes to the job to pop the lights off and undo the wiring.........
