The recall is on all of the prado and hilux in the campaign range, the dealerships are required to inspect all vehicles in the campaign wether the vehicle has a genuine bar, after-market one or none at all. You should get the recall sticker to show that the campaign has been completed on your vehicle, even if they only had to do the inspection.
The dealership should be checking the VIN number with the Toyota database each time your vehicle is booked for service so you don't miss any campaigns, even if you have brought the vehicle secondhand.

    • I just booked mine in with Penrith Toyota.

They were right up to speed with what is required.... new winch cradle has been ordered, and I get the job done next week.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

          • I hope a local PP'er didn't buy a winch mounting plate from Maitland Toyota on Saturday as it had my name on it.Prado was droped in this morning for a service and bull bar recall fix at the same time. They had 2 weeks notice so as to give them plenty of time to order the bull bar parts. They rang me mid morning and asked if they could keep the car overnight as spares had sold my parts on Saturday and would get new parts overnight. Late this afternoon I got another call to inform me that the winch plate in the car now is not a Toyota part so they are taking photos and sending them off to Toyota.I told them that as far as I know TJM told me they ordered a Toyota plate when they fitted the winch We will just wait and see what happens

            • It just gets worse.More calls today to inform me Toyota won't do the recall work as the bar mounting brackets arn't genuine Toyota. Not bloody happy.Car and bar both bought from Maitland Toyota and installed by them.Drop in to TJM today and they assure my they only use genuine Toyota winch plates and have never altered the mounting brackets. Also checked with Panel beater as he is the only other one to work on the bar after a minor accident and he tells me he hasn't toughed any of the brackets.Just as well the service manager is away as things might have got a bit ugly today. I will be calling them again tomorrow, let the fight begin

              • All fixed and job looks good.Took all that shake out of the bar and the front end fells a bit stiffer.I just need to reroute the UHF cable as it doesn't fit where it used to run with the new brackets. Not to bad concidering all the extras mounted on and in my bar Apparently the service desk was feed the wrong info about the brackets by the so called Toyota mechanics

                • Just had the recall done. Unfortunately, they didn't replace the winch cradle even though there was a winch cradle installed but no winch. Yesterday, they rang to say that the bolts that goes through the winch cradle was too short and they couldn't work out why that is the case with the kit supplied. Now I know why. It appears that a winch kit was not ordered. Have to sort this out in the morning on our scheduled last day in Sydney!

                  • That's interesting because since my recall work I find it difficult (near impossible) to flip the superwinch gear release lever - the new bar supports are in the way. No one else on here seems to have the problem though. I've pulled the winch out for a rebuild and will see if I can gain better access to the lever on refit. Weird.

                    • Rebuilt the winch gearbox today and found that I can rotate the gear casing to shift the release lever to the back of the housing and avoid the new bar struts obstructing access.

                      • Bump

Just took my 2008 GXL in for a service, seems the mounts hadn't been replaced yet even thouigh it has been serviced by Toyota all it's life. I purchased this 2008 PRADO back in January and had assumed it would surly have been done with one of the previous log book services. Perhaps the refit/fix is triggered by your VIN number, and my number finally came up?

Anyway, Stewart Toyota, Sydney, advised me at my 70,000km service this still needs to be done. So, I'm bumping this thread so others my see it and have this refit done before the cut-off date of Sept 13.

                              • Without Pradopoint I wouldn't have known about the Sovereign bar mounts recall. I phoned Penrith Toyota, who asked for my rego number or vin, thats all they needed to confirm that I needed to have the mounts redone. Booked in for next Friday, fingures crossed they do a neat job and get everything to line up.
I've also arranged for them to fit the winch cradle while they take the bar off. I phoned 2 other dealers for a price on the cradle and fitting. Cradle price varied from @$220 up to @$250, 2 of the dealers quoted an extra 1 to 1.5 hrs labor while the 3rd quoted 3 hrs labor.
