  • Cup holder divider in centre console

I know this is only a minor thing but could someone please post a photo or 2 of what the divider looks like where the cup holder is. Mine for my 2005 Grande has been missing since I bought the car and as I always have a water bottle or two with me i am sick of them bouncing out. Does the factory divider do its job/work well? I was thinking of making something to do the job but have no idea what the original one looked like.

I noticed that there seems to be a lack of flat areas to even sit a hot cup of coffee on when stopped and sitting in the car. I am surprised the prado doesnt have better or more cup holders. Even the back (2nd row) seat design is poor. The only holders are in the centre armrest which is good if only 2 passengers, but what happens when 3 sit there. Lots of cars use the door pockets, pity bottles wont fit in the prado pockets - Thanks ....

If someone doesnt use theirs I am more than willing to take it off their hands

I rang local Mr T spare parts today and they said it was $47-95 each  He couldnt even tell from their "drawing" what it even looked like and he said if it was him he would be looking for an alternative at that price. I cant see them ever selling any unless you happen to have a money tree. WHAT A RIP OFF!!

Looks like i will be making my own. Got the cardboard maccas takeaway tray ready to carve up as a prototype. Still not sure what I will make it from, thinking is cap on....

Get replacement ones from wrecking yards. They should have some.

I am trying to but no luck as yet. Havent found many yards that have 120 Prados.

If you can put up a photo of yours on PP it would be great so i can at least show them what i want

This is what it looks like dust and all (from a 2007 gxl)

And the bottom looks like this

I will check local wreckers to see if they have one or 2.

This is what mine looks like. It is about 4inches by 3inches and has two arms that come out to hold different sized bottles/cups etc.

It slots into the centre of the cup holding space and it adjustable with its arms.

And here's something that probably should be in the 'Little things' thread

For those of you that throw your spare coins in here, .... half a plastic Vegimite or Peanut Butter jar fits perfectly in the hole, and keeps all of your coins in one place, and you can lift it out to grab coins for parking meters etc.....

Re: Cup holder divider in centre console

The lack of a good cup holder has been one of my few gripes with the Prado. I would prefer a pop out one (like in the rear arm rest)and the perfect spot would have been where the CD stacker is located. These days does one really need a stacker when songs can be burnt onto a CD or DVD or USB stick. Not long after I took delivery I had the audio system replaced with a single disc Pioneer and installed a UHF CB underneath. At the time USB slots weren't available but now days just about all car audio systems come with them as standard.

I believe the 150 has them as standard but I am unaware as to whether they have improved the cup holder situation and the lack of "knick knack" spots. I find the centre cup holder is not the right spot for a hot cup of tea or coffee.

Re: Cup holder divider in centre console

Thanks for those photos I didnt have a clue what it looked like. Some of those photos look like the cup holders never get used as they were designed for so I am more than willing to put those dividers to use here if you want

The lack of knick knack spots and drink holders gets on my goat too. You have that big blank area sitting above the ashtray that surely could have been utilized for something (what is behind there anyway??) And under the ashtray behind the 12V power outlet is another large blank surface (where i seen a great speaker install done by a PP member) I have even seen in other makes of cars the cup holders stack in the dash vertically in a slim piece of plastic and when "opened" they come out and turn horizontal ready for use. Surely they could fit somewhere amongst the huge waste of space in all those "beautiful" chrome trim panels. Its obvious the interior designer of the 120 never drank coffee!!

Re: Cup holder divider in centre console

In our experience unless the cans/drinks are the same size as the space with the arms folded in the centre divider is pretty much useless. You are better off going to a wrecker and trial fitting other vehicles inserts to get one that fits and works. Don't waste the money on a factory replacement. I'm still looking for something that fits properly. You can rule out E series HSVs, Rodeos and Colorados, Terrortrees. Tried them and no good.

Re: Cup holder divider in centre console

I think i saw in a later model holden c'dore ?? that their drink holders fold up vertically into the dash and are thin when they fold up. press a button and out they come, fold out horizontal and there you go - a drink holder, one on each side in dash. So would anyone be game enough if they had ones like that to cut up dash and try a retro fit somewhere in the blank areas of the dash. Not sure what is behind all the shiny silver vertical trim bits in the Prado, but surely a hole could be cut so they fit?? I wonder if we have any motor trimmers on PP that would have any ideas? Who else could we ask? I have the centre cooler in the console but its so deep and with one or 2 bottles they fall over when they are in there as they have no support between them - and definately no good for coffee in there. Just after we bought the car we stopped at maccas (it was for the kids ops: ) and we noticed there wasnt anywhere to even put one of their drinks trays or even there chips while sitting in the car. The Prado obviously wasnt designed for the coffee or junk food addict

Although a handy idea, I had a car window smashed in over a similar coin collector. Close to $300 damage for a couple of bucks. There are some very desperate people out there and I'll never leave any coins in view through the window again.
