  • Placement of a GME4705G on ARB Bar

I am about to fit a GME4705G antenna onto an ARB deluxe (colour coded and winch equipped) bull bar. Just wanted to know if anyone has had any issues with using the LHS hole provided. Specifically, it has a heavy duty spring as recommended because my beast is a diesel 2009 120 series Grande and the bar already has ipf900 spotties so the whole centre area is out of bounds.

Personally I'd be looking at the ZCG equivalent with the stubby as backup for around town. Keep in mind with UHF 'height is might' as they say so if the antenna isn't over roof height then rear comms will be compromised. I fitted my UHF antenna to the roofrail.

My antenna is mounted in the hole provided on the ARB bar. Only issue I have is you need to desolder the connector if the antenna base is damaged. Other than that no real problems. The antenna still oscillates when on corrugations but not quite as wildly as when mounted to the Sovereign bar (with the old chassis mounts). My 6.5db antenna is the GME AE4018K1. Have done the Flinders Ranges and the Simpson with the ARB bar but we haven't really experienced many corries on those treks. Around town and also when highway travelling I just use the little stubby antenna which works fine. It even works well in hilly country and is not so vulnerable. When in the outback, I use the AE4018K1. The low mount seems to have no negative effects at all.

Guys, thanks for the feedback. I also have a 2.1dbi cheap stubby that screws straight onto the spring for about town/hills/corros etc. Can't consider the alternative as I already bought the antennas, well not until i shatter it

Re: Placement of a GME4705G on ARB Bar

In my opinion the hole down near the headlight that ARB provide is too low down. To be effective the bottom of the antenna should be at least at bonnet height ( in my opinion  )
I got an aftermarket stainless steel antenna bracket and mounted it to the top rail of the bullbar. It's the U shaped bracket with the two jubilee clips, not an L shaped one with the pipe clamps ( which I found slipped around the tube )
This is mounted just to the outside of the bullbar upright on the passenger side. I mounted on the front side of the bullbar rail so it doesn't foul the bonnet. The cable runs down the upright. Quite a neat arrrangement
            Cheers, Wayne

Yep did the same thing and also got an antenna that comes just above the roof rack height so it is also handy for SWMBO so she knows if she can fit into the shopping car park
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further
