  • New Prado owner

    Hi Guys,

I am new to the Prado family having just bought a 2005 3lt auto GXL with 115,000 Klms on the clock. I was tossing up between a pajero or a pathfinder until I drove the prado and it felt so soild and quite compared to the other two. I also used to own a 87 Hilux when i was younger and gave it hell for many years without it complaining at all so getting another Toyota was an easy choice.

I have been reading the old posts on here and getting some great info, but it will take me the rest of the year to get through them all.

My prado has the Sovereign Bar and I am planning on replacing this with a steel bar from ARB or TJM as I am a keen bowhunter and spend alot of time driving to and from farms and forests in the dark and have hit a few roos and even a deer earlier this year.

Does anyone know if it is a straight forward job to do at home to replace the bar? I used to muck around with the work on the old lux but it didn't have air bags etc.

Also I've been looking for on board water storage for the prado without much success, anyone got any info or links to give me a hand?

I imagine i will many questions to come, so thank in advance.

    Thanks John

As for the bull bar, I fitted mine (ARB) and found the instructions to be great. If you are good on the tools give it a go but follow the manual to the letter as it is all step by step. You will need to put a BBQ on and call a couple of mates around to fit it they are heavy, ever without the winch. Good luck with it and don't forget, take pics and post then in ya build up.

      Re: New Prado owner

Welcome John to the forum and congrats on the new Prado. You have now entered a phase in your life where your back will be in fantastic health as your wallet will continually be empty due to accessories you "need". This place will help you with that.
I had my bar fitted by TJM so can't help you with that but a simple mod I have been planning to do myself is the DIY tank found here. There is also a retail one which fits in the side panel at the rear I believe which holds 21 litres and costs a lot more than it's worth IMO. Or you can just get a camper trailer and keep your water in there..

      Cheers, Phil.
