  • Prado Key Type

    Hi,
Does any1 know if the 2003 Prado use the 4c or 4d transponder key?
I believe that the change over from the 4c occurred in 03 but I am not sure and would like to buy a replacement key online but am unsure of the type.
    Thanks

    Re: Prado Key Type

    Hello,

I'm driving a 2003 (European) Land Cruiser / Prado 120 and I recently had to change the housing of my key (the plastic was broken, just above the metal part). I wasn't also sure which model I had to order. So I sent a picture and the dimensions of the blade and I've got the right one. Now I have a regular key (without logo) and a key that flips in (with logo). You have to transpose the electronic part inside of the key, but with the flip-in model you must seperated the transponder and replace it because otherwise the distance is to much between the key and the dash. I found the replacement on Ebay in France and The Netherlands. I only had to cut the new keyblade with a keyrepairer.
I hope you can do something with this info.

    grtz

      Thanks Dirk,
I am not sure of how the years between the intro of the 120 Pardo and the Cruisers translate.
I know the key dimensions but i need to know the transponder type as I am going to program a new key from scratch.
      Thanks for your help anyway.

          Re: Prado Key Type

          Look at your existing key.

No dot is the 4c transponder.

            Thanks Mick
This dot would be on the original master and 2nd key that came with the car?
I think I only have the second key.

              Re: Prado Key Type

In Australa it's only on the master (non-remote) key.

The remote keys have an "L" stamped in the same spot but I can't confirm if this is related to transponder ship type.

You may have to take an educated guess and buy a key (or one of each type) and just try to program it.

Toyota blank transponder keys can be bought very cheaply (Like $20US out of China or the US, have a look on Ebay or do a Google search.)

If your budget stretches you can also get a key programmer that plugs into the vehicles diagnostic plug.
