This is a known problem for Toyota. I had all my keys replaced by a dealer.

It was a bit easier getting the replacement because a mate of mine works there :!:

      Hello Guys

Its my first post. Just bought my 04 VX and am selling my 94 Hilux.(What a world of difference)

Ive got one key for it and have just bought a blank off ebay for 160. Followed a link posted here somewhere.

Now its time to cut it when it arrives and then........hmmmm

I read the programming sequence for the 90 series but the 120 is different i hear.

Does any one have a link for this please?

        Hi
Just a thought if you have bought a second hand car and only get the one key that the dealer has, I only got one key for my 04 GXL and the dealer said that was all they were given. The spare parts guy suggested that I ring the original owner as per the service book because when someone trades in a car they generally only hand over the key they have on their keyring and not the spares that the have stashed in their kitchen drawer.
I rang the original owner and luck woul have it they still had the keys and were more than happy for me to pop over and collect them.
Saved me 2 new keys nad the number code.

        Regards
        Wayne

Hey Sparksy. I went one step further & included a scratchie in the envelope. Didn't get the mail returned orhear anything from them. It was worth a try though.

I have seen replacement keys on ebay really cheap, under $50. All you have to do when you get it is get Toyota to Program the key to your car. That costs about $20-$30 and it works like new.

I know from experience when my partner drove over my keys to my mazda tribute and they shattered and then I had to purchase a new key and have it programmed. Saved me alot of money that way.

wht do you think, will this work on LC4/Prado 120 as well? any1 tried this procedure yet?
This is total different to the way that you program the 120 keys.
I search all around for re-programing key for my 2005 gxl (diesel) Prado and no luck at all.
can you PLEASE share you knowledge if you got the steps.
              Thanks in advance

                  Re: My Key broke.

The plastic housing of my key broke. The fellow from Minit quoted 90 dollars to cut a new key and supply new housing. From what I can see, the metal portion just slots into the housing and is held in place with a small screw. Why not simply swap the old electronics AND old key shaft into a new plastic housing - all done and finished, no need to reprogram etc. :?: Am I missing something :?: :?: :?:

                    Hi Bear,

From memory (I have replaced my broken key - bought off Ebay) the metal key shaft is set/ glued/ moulded into the plastic at the top. My local locksmith charged me $20 to cut the ket and I swapped the insides over. A hell of a lot cheaper than what Toyota wanted.

OK, I'll check out ebay; failing that, 90 is a lot less than 320 for a new one from Toyota.

                          cheers

Have just bought a new flip out key from musifieds off ebay for under $20- and for $6- he cut it to code. Brilliant service & great key. Just be careful when you undo the screws to fit the computer chip/battery thingy that the spring doesn't go shooting across the floor
