  • Paint Touch Up?

I have a question to any panel/paint people out there or others who might have gone through a similar problem:

I had a 2nd batt system installed at a unnamed place. They ran the wires and fridge plug to the back. Whilst installing the plug they did not remove the plastic bit (the one around the factory ciggie lighter at the back) but instead the fitter but a screwdriver against the inside of the body panel to create enough of a gap for him to work with. This has pushed out a tiny dimple (3mm in diameter) on the outside of the car and slightly cracked the paint around it.

After weeks of my convincing them that it was their fitter who did it, they decided to pay for it. They sent me to their panel place where they get their bullbars and the like colour coded. After speaking to the guy who'll be doing the work he said there were two ways to go about it, sand down and paint the whole panel or give the dimple bit of a push and paint just that (touch up).

I know the 2nd method sounds bit dodgy but i dont like the fact the whole panel would get the new paint. I strongly believe the factory paint is much stronger than whatever p/p people can supply me with.

The only question that i have is: what would you do (i know the 2nd method you might still see it a bit which doesnt concern me as most shopping dings are bigger than that, all i care is rust prevention). If I went with the 2nd method would the paint chip/crack later?

    Re: Paint Touch Up?

The touch up guy that come around to my house for a small scrape said he needed to respray the whole panel. (which he did ).
I think it is some thing to do with the clear coat that goes over top - it is hard to make that look good with a patch job.

Besides, you didn't cause the problem, it should be a perfect job and it should be like new.
    Cheers, Wayne
