This is very troubling. I've also heard but cannot confirm that thieves gain access to the vehicle through "code grabbing" equipment which can copy the code of the remote locking feature on the key when you use it in a car park or shopping centre and then possibly follow the vehicle back to its address and wait for an opportune time to steal it. Apparently the keeloq encryption used on Toyotas and many other makes has been compromised for some time. I don't know whether locking and unlocking the vehicle manually might prevent this? Does anyone have any further info. about this?

Hope you get your Prado back!

        Re: Stolen 120

Sorry to hear the bad news mate . It,s got me worried as i live in penshurst . Just on how they are stealing these cars , my
brother inlaws hilux was stolen from the front of his place last year (gladesville NSW) police say that alot of them are inside
jobs through toyota dealerships . By the way of getting a spary key cut and coded . Make sure you don,t have that little tag
with the key ID number on your key ring as thats how they have been doing it. Service dept guys use that ID to obtain a new
key as they have ascess to your full name and address and key can be ordered by phone . Thats what the cops said any way.
Hope your Insurance comes to the party .
        Cheers Steve

          Re: Stolen 120

          Guys
Very interesting reading your replies especially the guy in Penshurst . There's a 120 that's parked on Roberts Rd at Mortdale and I've noticed that it has either a wheel clamp or Club lock fitted , sorry I can't remember which ? When I went past it I used to think to myself , why bother fitting that , it can't be pinched ?
The GPS tracking is great and has lots of features but it's expensive . I'm into Amateur Radio , that's what the vk2ss part of my ID is and we have a a system called APRS where the vehicle logs on to our system and can be tracked . Some of my frends have this fitted and you can see their location easily on the Net .
Yes a few people have asked about recent servicing and no the ID tag isn't on the key ring . It was serviced at Chatswood which is quite a distance from Peakhurst . It was convenient for work to do it this way as I could catch the train over to Macquarie Park .
The thing that I really wonder about is how they managed to do it without making any noise as it's ultra quiet here and my beedroom faces the road ? It was parked on the grass footpath so they would've had to manouvre it down and off the grass and onto the road . If they used dolly wheels you'd think that the grass would've been a problem ?
I think the insurance company is going to give me grief as there's no sign , broken glass etc. that it's been broken into . Of course if they find it this could well change .

This just leaves us wondering how to effectively immobilise our vehicles ? It's got to be something out of the ordinary I reckon as the standard after market alarm stuff would be too easily over ridden by the pro's . Most people don't take any notice of a car alarm going off anyway . How about it , any auto elec's out there got some advice ?
I reckon disabling the fuel pump is the go as it wouldn't matter if they used their own ECU as it's not going to run without fuel .
But maybe it's better to stop them getting into the car in the first place , maybe an added remote that disables the door opening mechanism so even if they've got some sort of code breaker the doors still wont open ? I don't know if that'll also stop them if they had a key , but I think the door is still unlocked electrically . Surely there's some auto elec's out there can verify this for us ?
Guys keep the info coming as it's beneficial for all of us .
          Cheers Ross

            Re: Stolen 120

That really sucks big time for you Ross, I know what thats like. I once had a car stolen from the front of my house was the second car I ever owned (Mazda RX3 and was so noisey) I lived on a hill with mum's car parked below it in a busy street in Annandale I could not beleive I saw the car at 11pm when a mate left my place and it was found the next morning 2 Suburbs away totally stripped and I mean everything it was a paartial shell with the engine precariously balancing on its supports. They even put cheap stuff on it to move it to the final dumping position. I woke up for ages after that dreamming someone was stealing my car only problem was I didn't have a replacement yet.

Next car I brought (old Celica) I had an alarm with central locking solenoids installed that deadlocked the doors so the only way in was to break the windows. Worked when someone in Top Ryde tried to jimmy the locks but at least I still had my car.

I hope your Prado is found soon and was just used in a robbery or something where you will get it back.

            Regards,

            Rolf

              Re: Stolen 120

My Audi had a mechanical deadlock which locked out the remote. You lock with the remote then turn the key in the door to the left. This would deadlock the vehicle and allow it to be opened only via key only and not from the remote. If the Prado had this we could determine if they infact had a key or remote to open it. The other idea would be to add a beeper so you can hear it when it is unlocked/locked, I don't know how you would trigger this though.
