  • Rear wheel flares coming loose

Hi all, my 2009 Prado has a loose rear wheel flair that has a broken clip. The flare was not hit, it just broke and came adrift by itself. My second Prado also within 12 months has the same issue. I have spoken to the dealer spare parts and apparently its not uncomon, but the service Victorian Manager has apparently never heard of it occuring. We have had two instances in 12 months, so wondering if any others??
Not really wanting to bag this dealer, but you would think after purchasing two vehicles at 135K, they would at least be more inclinned to assist with servicing and waranty without absolutley making us feel guilty that "their product" has failed. Dealer is out Nth/East.... :x

Re: Rear wheel flares coming loose

My right rear flare popped off a couple of clips. Although they weren't broken, whenever I pushed it back in place it would pop back out again next trip. So I pulled the clips off completely, pulled back the interior trim, and used a bit of tie wire through the holes where the clips go. Twisted it up tight, and the flare now sits nicely. The left flare hasn't done it yet, but does seem a little loose, so perhaps one day I'll give it the same treatment. I suppose a cable-tie would be just as effective.

The Prado has now joined the long list of cars owned by me that had bits held together with fencing wire.

Have similar issues on my drivers side front door and the drivers side rear flare & rear bumper...

Have had Toyota quote for repairs to both sections and in each circumstance they have come back with a $600+ figure, so total $1200+!!! Decided that i'd wait until i did some real damage to the sections before a repair at that price. Haven't as yet got around to looking at either myself yet though.

But shouldn't be too had though - anyone know what the price and part number is for the clips in question?

Ditto - front driver side flare popped clips as well - nothing hit. I've had the car since Dec09 and remember the wife's foot fell onto the drivers side flashing (just above side step) the 1st week we had it (getting use to the height) and also popped off the clips there. When I took took for next service at dealership previous owner was using, they quoted parts $240 plus labour to install  The front side flare clips happened after this. They did not have parts at the time so said would look at doing next service - which is now due Feb11. (Have to get soveriegn bar mounts changed as well under recall/service check - so will also ask if can do front flare clip at same time - if no charge for labour)

Just got car back from dealership - their explanation why clips pop is soverign bar to close to the car and with vibrations etc the bar hits and pops them? They replace all clips RHS and here is section of invoice that shows part# and price FYI

Re: Rear wheel flares coming loose

When I bought mine in December last year I noticed the flare was loose on the rear right. Salesman said 'It's just the clip we'll fix that', which they did - be interesting to see how long it lasts.
