I've been thinking about getting some more data from the Prado than the standard gauges provide. During heavy towing, hard 4wding etc it would be good to know how things are going and maybe prevent a failure. I'm looking at a Scangauge but need to work out what the critical data required is. Given I drive an auto D4D I am thinking EGT, auto temp, water temp. Anything else and why?

Re: What Data?
D4D,
You have hit the nail on the head with EGT and auto trans fluid temp when towing with a D4D. Unfortunately neither of these parameters are available from the ScanGaugeII. There is no EGT thermocouple in a D4D, an whilst the auto trans fluid temp is available in the ECU as far as I know nobody has worked out the X-Gauge code to display the temp on a ScangaugeII.
My set up is a ScanGaugeII plus seperate auto trans fluid temp and EGT gauges. The parametes that I monitor on the ScanGaugeII are:
Coolant temp - the standard Toyota gauge is completely over dampened and you will cook the engine before the gauge registers the over temp.
Voltage - my aux charging system pushes the standrad D4D alternator to it's limit so I like to keep and eye on what is happening
Speed -the scangauge allows you to offset the speed to match different size tyres - handy when you have multiple sets of wheel and tyres.
Instantaneous fuel consumption
I like knowing that should I get a fault in a remote area that I can at least use the ScanGaugeII to find out the code and know what I'm dealing with and possibly reset it.
