  • 120 series fuel tank internal filter

My 160,000 services schedule says to replace the fuel filter in the engine bay and the internal tank filter.
Not wanting to ask the obvious but how easy is it to get out ( the tank filter)????
From what I can see you have to drop the tank and get at it from the top by opening up the small plate.
Has anyone else done this job?. From the amount of work that needs to be done on the 160 service I find it hard to believe the dealership would even do half of it so I decided to buy all the bits and do it myself and make sure it gets done properly.

Check with Toyota. Goto the spare parts dept. They can enter your VIN and tell you if it actually has one. Although the manual says so it seems not all 120s have the internal filter. Mine for instance does not.

    Cheers.

Check out the 6th post in this thread. The author discovered his filter was external and adjacent to the main tank.

Re: 120 series fuel tank internal filter

Slammin Sammy, what year ,is it petrol or diesel
There is a filter between both fuel tanks on all the D4D models Part No. 23300-30310.
This is probably what the reference is all about, I do not know if the petrol models have this filter?
Some where there is a post as to how to change the filter, it is not hard once you find out how to
unclip the fuel lines. (You do not have to remove the fuel tanks)

        Cheers,

Re: 120 series fuel tank internal filter

I don't know anything about an internal filter, however i did remove the rear fuel tank in my first prado to repair a hole. It wasn't a difficult job, take of the gaurd, remove hoses making sure you know which way to reconnect them, then undo two straps and the tank drops out. Just make sure you are onto the second tank of fuel before doing the job (if it turns out removing the tank is nescessary)

          Cheers Andrew
