  • Petrol V Diesel

I know this subject has been done to death and yes i have "read all the previous posts" done my research on facts & figures etc etc, but my question as a potential new prado buyer is, What are the pro's n cons of D4D's V petrol? In Adelaide i have been observing fuel prices for the last few months and it seems Unleaded is consistently 5c - $ 0.14c per litre cheaper, always. maybe out in Oonawoopwoop it may vary, and i get the driving conditions will affect fuel consumpion

Seems to me that driving a diesel in suburbia would have negligible savings, if any- L/kms. - 3kms per litre saving with diesel V $0.10c or more per litre

I understand the pros for diesel - outback fuel issues, more torque ,reliability, longevity, environmental etc, etc and previously i was set on a D4D, but now im not sure the fuel & economy figures add up.

80 - 90% of my time would be driving back n forth to work, rest would be Outback S.A. N.T and the more i read the more i am swinging from diesel back to ULP. Has anybody else experienced this conundrum or wished they went from 1 powerplant to the other or had any regrets?

I like the power of the 4l, but also dig the "read about" reliability n guts of D4D.

Sorry for banging on about his again but just trying to make a informed and good decision based on more experienced and previous / current owners who know 100% more ( i know Zip ) about Prados and issues than me

You have got that right?? The figures i have done is anywhere 750- 1000 dollars per year in costs depending on price of the fuel st the time, just need to decide if the power ofthe petrol is worth the cost, not to mention the issue they have had with some D4D's.

Seriously, the Prado is blessed with such good engines it truly doesn't matter. Just get what you like to drive.

If you like lots of power then get the petrol. It will cost you a little more in fuel but nothing huge.

If you like good fuel economy and happy to cruise along in a more relaxed mode then get the diesel.

Either way, you wont be unhappy.

I have the earlier diesel engine and am quite happy with it.

edit. Just saw hutches post. If it is an extra grand then thats only $19.23 per week. Sheesh, should of god the petrol 8)
